The latest trademark from Sony Computer Entertainment is for the name "BigFest" and it sounds a lot like the service currently provided by the PlayStation 3's Home. Could this be the title of the PlayStation 4's next social hub? According to the trademark description the service would host games, demos, social media and encourage community participation. Sounds great, but why does it have to be named BigFest of all things?
Here's the full description text taken verbatim from the trademark filing:
"Hosting on-line web facilities for interactive game play; hosting web sites of others for video and computer games or parts of video and computer games created by others on a computer server for a global computer network."
... and part two:
"Introduction and social networking services, namely, introducing video game players to each other for the purposes of playing multiplayer games online, participating in online games communities and competitions, and online player networking and social introduction."
Basically, it's Home. It's impossible to tell what the intended use of... BigFest... will be, but hopefully Sony has learned a few lessons from its previous social platform. Home turned into one of the creepiest places on the internet. It has the basic requisites to serve as an interactive chat room, but anything to do with games or demos and you might as well just break your PS3 with a hammer.
As important as it will be for the PlayStation 4 to have some sort of introductory service, a social platform for players to join like the Wii U's WaraWara Plaza, I really hope the final name isn't BigFest. BigFest sounds like the creepy small carnival set up overnight in an empty lot with three rides and two dozen carnies that you shouldn't trust with your life. "Hey, want hang out a BigFest?" should never be spoken out loud.

I could see this more as a kind of...group feature, not so much a Sims sort of "living in your box" deal. The descriptions sound a lot like matchmaking out of game, generating and organizing groups of players within PSN itself, before ever entering an online game.

Does anyone still use Home? Seriously? They promised so much i.e. trophy room, sharing your HDD videos on your apartment tv and such yet it never happened. It was a nice novelty when it was first released but do people still regularly log into home?

harbin They could have named it Bieber Plaza, which would probably make me hang myself :P

I'm more of the opinion they just misspelled 'Feast' and it was their idea for a massive BBQ.
Wii U's WaraWara Plaza
Could they make up a more annoying word to try and pronounced?
