Hopefully that will change, Steam is going in positive directions - Indie games take off a lot more on PC. Definitely a good platform for future, shame everyone is brainwashed by the too expensive thing, when in reality a PC that could run most games well is like £400($650), which is a consoles average launch price (not perfect since exchange rates inflate the US price a lot, more about $500). But still it is just as cheap to go with an upgradeable PC that progresses a generation each year unlike consoles every 5-8. Sorry for changing the direction there, thought I better continue with THM's little point there
To be fair, at launch consoles offer approx $1000 of equivalent medium-high range PC hardware to consumers for less than half the price and are alot more accessible for those who lack technical knowledge. Not everyone knows how to assemble their own PC's or install windows onto them so assembly costs would blow out that figure even more. After ~2 years or so PC hardware does become more affordable though and its also worth considering the extra value a PC provides through all its other functions.

That said, I'm only extrapolating those trends from the last three generations of console releases, speculation suggests that the next generation of consoles is going to have mediocre specs but at the same time be heavily discounted.

I'm happy that it will be on Steam. I do not enjoy using Origin.
