it is different for sure. if anything, zelda 2 feels like some sort of proto-metroidvania type game. it is rare to see such innovation in the zelda series these days. skyward sword did feel a bit like zelda 2 to me in some ways though, with the more advanced swordplay.

Interesting how Nintendo went down such a different route when making this Zelda sequel. Although a lot of it does seem to be rather awkward.
