When (if?) the FBI raids your HQ, does the game end right there? I've suddenly lost a few games, and all the game says is "Well, if you don't have the law on your side, you don't have nothin". At first, I thought I was getting killed by my enemies, but this last time, I was too powerful with a much weaker enemy, and my place was guarded as tight as can be. Four 4+ star guards in both office and tenement block, and about 5 shotgun armed hoods that I pourposely didn't give any orders to to keep them in the office as well. I don't think he could have busted that, as he tried many times with disasterous (for him) results. Anybody know what the deal is?

Ok, so far so good. I got past the first election, this time with a Teamsters racket behind a Trade Union, my opponent barely cracked 30 % this time, although theres one other gang out there. I don't know if it will be enough if the other guy gets eliminated, but it worked quite well this time.

So, what this is saying is that if I set up a teamsters racket behind a union of some type, then it will fix the election? I think I'll try that and see if it helps. That would explain why sometimes the game wins this way, and sometimes not. I'd rather not go on a bombing/torching campaign if possible.

Hmm that should work according to manual:

quote manual
If you find that another Gang Leader is attempting to become
mayor, your best choices are to run for office yourself, or to start
bombing and killing people within the opponent’s territory.
Also check out this info about election in general:

quote manual
the Lawyer will only offer you this option if you have both the power base (100 blocks) and the capital to stand a chance of winning.

One type of illegal business allows you to fix the voting in elections. This is the Teamsters building. Teamsters skim money from the unions, and also influence the “block voting” system used in elections. Fixing elections can be used to help a player become mayor, as the union swings the block vote from the industrial area. You can have any number of Teamsters buildings, but only one counts towards the union vote.
Those situated behind Union buildings are most successful in this role. The fixing of the vote is an automatic function that takes place during an election.
I'm not sure whether the computer players also use teamsters building, then you could attack it. But I doubt it.

I uploaded the manual (replace hxxp with http): hxxp://www.sendspace.com/file/b91kum

I don't usually have enough territory under control to run myself. The first thing I like to do is establish illegal buisinesses. I was thinking maybe I could torch and bomb a bunch of tenements under his control to get him below the threshhold for running.

@ Linebacker
Are even you running for office yourself? That's what I always did and I never really had a problem with rivals getting elected. But yes, torching/bombing should be the next tactic according to manual.

Usually when it says that it means another boss won the mayoral election. I know this because I've heard it twice since Sunday, usually juat after i got some very high profit buisinesses running, like casinos located in banks. I'm still trying to thwart a rivals campaign, I've tried everything short of just bombing and torching the tenements that he is extorting to get his territory count below the necessary level. In my case, I think it's because of the low territory/high illegal buisiness style I use, it lends itself to that vulnerability.

Ähhhm hey guys. Got a question for you:

Why does the game end when I blow up the Police Station?

It just says "Well, if you don't have the law on your side, you don't have nothin". But after I blew that damn thing up, there was no law left =)

I know I shouldn't do that. Just tried it cause the enemy HQ was placed next to it for some reason, and I couldn't attack him while there were so many blue men hanging arround.

But back to my question. Is that like it should be? I mean I didn't get caught, there was no FBI, I wasn't even wanted. I just went there with about 70 hoods, shot every cop and blew that damn thing up. I thought that it would be rebuild somewhere else =)

Thx for your help

Ok, the problem was rival bosses einning elections. My main rival in this game I just finished ran twice, lost the first time, appearently won the second time. There's got to be a way to thwart their electoral prospects, I just have to figure it out.

Appearently the new glitch is I win the game around the 45th week. It's just as annoying.

Ok, it just happened again. It must be because rival bosses are winning mayoral elections. The last two or three times it's happened, theres been an election going on, and a rival boss has had the lead in the polls. I'm going to have to figure out how to thwart the elections. The only thing I can think of now is to find their HQ and kill them when they get a lead in the polls.
Try sending crews on their territories and "gas leak", extort, break into (raid) and sort of their businesses. That will lower their reputation in the area, because it will mean they cannot protect their land effectively and people will probably stop voting for them..it will basically lower their chances for succeeding election thus they wont take the mayor office etc.

Another thing you could do is to bribe the FBI, Police departament so that they would leave you alone for the time being and deal with the rivals. Not sure if that will be any effective against their election campaign though.

You can also try to look for their income sources. As far as I know in order to win an election and become the mayor it's suggested (not sure if required) if you lower (or don't collect at all) the protection money in your area so that people will start liking you..so basically it should not be their primary cash making thing. Try searching for their illegal businesses and raid/destroy them thus you will cut off some of their main income thus making it hard for him/them to win the election.
