This thread is for your Career Mode Updates. Quality posts are what we hope so see, no one-liners and keep general chat to the Career Mode Discussion if it's regarding Career Mode or to the General Discussion/PM if it's off-topic. This thread is a good read and echoes our ideas on content in the forum, it's suggested you read it at least once to be sure of what we expect of the members here.

This thread is strictly for career mode updates and responses to those. Results, stories, signings and things of that nature are to be posted here. Anything else (things not related to another member's or your own update) does not belong here and instead belongs in the Career Mode Discussion thread and as always, follow the forum rules.

In regards to stories (SOMS'?)

In previous forums people were free to make threads for their career mode stories, but I think for every 1 good one there will likely be 10 bad ones, bad being just poorly written, ones that are given up on after a few updates and multiple that are all made by the same guy are a few examples. It could get to a point where over half of the threads on the first page are peoples stories. Instead they will all go here. If one particular member is consistently putting out good updates over a period of time then they could be granted permission to have their own thread but until then I think just having it all in one thread would be tidier. It could be argued it'd be bothersome to have a thread to house all the updates but to counter this the following post will archive peoples stories and updates to help people keep up with their favourites.

AS Roma - 2016/17

24th January- 24th February

Roma are reportedly close to agreeing a fee with West Ham for their right back, Jordan Spence in a player plus cash exchange which could see goalkeeper Curci moving to the Hammers as part of the deal.

Sampdoria 3-3 Roma -(Roma win 2-4 on penalties) quarter final

Icardi 50' pen
Icardi 68'
Caicedo 73'
Pjanic 82'
Caicedo 89'
Icardi 90'

Three changes for Roma heading into this quarter final with Stekelenburg back in goal after being rested. D'Alessandro comes in at right mid for the tired Lamela and Caicedo gets the nod up front with Bojan and Osvaldo.
A thrilling quarter final in which Roma took far too long to wake up. An early penalty awarded to Roma was saved the hands of Romero. Sampdoria were then awarded a penalty right after the break which Icardi put away with ease. A second from Icardi looked to put Roma out. But Shortman's team kept fighting and with Vivianni and Beric coming on they were able to claw two goals back to level it up. Caicedo latched onto a fine pass in the 89th minute and scored what seemed to be the winner. However there was just enough time for Icardi to complete his hat trick with a header which bounced just over the line and right back out, to take the tie to extra time. Both teams looked tired and Roma came closest to scoring but after 120' minutes penalties were required. Steklenburg made a fine save to deny Sampdoria's second penalty. Caicedo fittingly scored the decisive penalty to send Roma through to the semis.

Semi-Final draw - Coppa Nazionale

First legs

Juventus v Milan
Torino v Roma

Contract talks with Jordan Spence have broken down with the right back unwilling to leave England to head for Italy. Roma are rumoured to be looking at other right backs, Cedric(Sporting Lisbon) and Gregory van set Wiel(PSG).

Parma 4-1 Roma

Boniperti 6'
Florenzi 19'
Rossi 49'
Boniperti 80'
Boniperti 84'

With the Coppa Nazionale semi final first leg just two days away, plenty of fresh faces were given a chance against Parma. Bradley, Baumann, Antei and Beric were all given starts.
A huge shock was delivered in Serie A today. A clearly fatigued Roma played second fiddle to a Parma side who looked ready to get as far away from the relegation zone as possible. A hat trick from Boniperti was more than deserved. The closest Roma came to starting a comeback was in the final few minutes when substitute Bojan struck the crossbar from the edge if the d. Apart from that Roma struggles to trouble the Parma keeper.

Shortman has today confirmed that Roma have signed PSG right back, Gregory van see Wiel on a 3 year deal for £3 million.

Transfer deadline day
-

Roma completely the sale of Gianluca Curci to AS Monaco for a fee of £1.1 million.

Ashley Young rejects approach from Inter Milan.

Arsenal complete signing of Brazilian centre back, Juan Jesus for £13.5 million.
AC Milan also complete a £13 million transfer for de Jong.

Podolski rejects approach from Inter Milan.
CSKA veteran Vagner Love has rejected interest shown by Toulouse FC.

An interesting transfer window for AS Roma as Shortman brings in 3 signings, Baumann, Beric and van der Wiel. Curci went the opposite way and Aued, Bianchetti and Lucca all left for a loan spell.

Torino 2-1 Roma - Coppa Nazionale - semi final 1st leg

Roma began well but tired towards the last quarter of the match. "I'm getting a bit sick of the match schedule lately. Yet again we've had one day rest for the lads and before a cup semi-final that is shocking." Roma will need to overcome Torino in the reverse tie in three weeks time.

Roma 1-5 Atalanta

Manolas 5'
Marilungo 22' pen
Ardemagni 33'
Van der Wiel 45'
Troisi 75'
Modolo 90'

Only two changes to Shortman's usual XI with Viviani coming in at midfield got Pjanic and Caicedo being placed upfront, Osvaldo dropping to the bench.
Fans were in outrage and left the match early as Roma were handed another humiliating defeat. Atalanta outclassed the home side in every single way. Van der wiel's first goal for the club gave supporters a little hope that a comeback could be on the cards but Troisi was quick to crush that hope. This defeat comes as Shortman's biggest loss of his managerial career which saw his side drop to 5th in Serie A.

Roma 2-2 Pascara

Osvaldo 6'
Cascione 29'
Osvaldo 45'
Vukusic 72'

Osvaldo and Pjanic both return to the side and Baumann replaces Stekelenburg between the sticks. Bojan retains his place in Shortman's starting eleven despite a run of goaless games. Well it wasn't a loss but a draw is still not the result Roma fans want to see, especially against a 17th placed side. A fantastic performance from Osvaldo was a stark contrast from his fellow team mates who were sloppy. Banners drapes over the stands showing the fans feelings towards Shortman. "You're gettin sacked in the morning rang out from the visiting crowd.

Edit: For some reason forgot to note down my usual end of update things like position in te league, upcoming fixtures etc. Sorry 'bout that. I'll be sure to include them in my next update.

Season 2012/13 - Difficulty: Legendary - Part Six

December 2012

After dropping points in their last outing to then-bottom Pescara, Roma faced a trip to current 20th-placed Siena. The team last in the table have so far only managed to pick up six points from fourteen games. After only three minutes, Roma captain Daniele De Rossi bagged his first goal of the season after Francesco Totti played him in and he fired a shot past the Siena goalkeeper, Pegolo. As has been the case far too often this season for Roma, the opposition scored mere minutes after the Giallorossi did. A cross was met with a fine header by Nicola Pozzi from ten yards out. Roma instantly replied as Osvaldo saw Pjanic making a run and so played a chipped through-ball towards the Bosnian whose powerful strike hit the underside of the crossbar, bounced inches over the line and sprang out of the goal again. For a considerable period after that goal, the match was very quiet. Then on 61 minutes, great individual play from Erik Lamela saw the young Argentine play in Totti who placed a neat left-footed effort beyond the goalkeeper. As had happened at the start of the game, Siena pulled a goal back only a few minutes after Roma had scored as a weak shot by Rosina found it's way past an outstretched Stekelenburg. On 69 minutes Roma were awarded a rather soft penalty as a Siena's Terlizzi was deemed to have fouled Lamela although replays showed there was very little contact between the two. Nevertheless, Totti stepped up and buried the penalty to score his fifth spot kick and his eleventh goal of the season to restore his side's two-goal cushion. A little bit later on, Wilfried Bony was unlucky to not get on the scoresheet as his shot cannoned off of both posts and out. The full-time whistle soon followed with a further three points in the bag for the title-chasing Rome outfit.

02/12/12 - Serie A - Siena 2-4 Roma

MOTM: Francesco Totti - The veteran produced another brilliant display by scoring twice and assisting De Rossi's opener.

Roma's next Serie A match saw them face off against the side they would play in the next round of the Coppa Nazionale in a months time, Fiorentina. Once again, Roma started off in the best possible way as Lamela took the ball into the box and played it back to Totti who scored his best goal of the season so far as he sweetly struck a first-time half-volley into the far top corner of the net. Brown was aware of the threat Fiorentina possess up front with star man Jovetic so he told his players to play possession football, be conservative and defend. Emiliano Viviano pulled off some good saves to deny Lamela and Pjanic from doubling the home side's advantage. Totti popped up again with his second on 69 minutes as some neat passing by Pjanic and Osvaldo allowed the 36-year old to get the ball onto his left-foot and stroke it into the bottom left corner to make it 2-0 to Roma. Fiorentina pressed for a goal at the end of the match and they ended up getting one as Llama crossed the ball to the far post which left an easy volley for the unmarked Cuadrado. However, Roma held on and earned their twelfth league win of the season.

- Francesco Totti celebrates after scoring his second of the night.

09/12/12 - Serie A - Roma 2-1 Fiorentina

MOTM: Francesco Totti - Controlled the game well and scored Roma's two goals to see off a very persistent and potent Fiorentina and claim his fifth man of the match award of this campaign.

A week later, Roma faced 14th-placed Chievo Verona. After 16 minutes, Pjanic was bundled over as he was going to take a shot and the referee pointed to the spot. Francesco Totti took it and scored to give Roma a 1-0 lead. On 43 minutes, Bony shot which Squizzi saved but it fell to Totti sixteen yards out who hit it first time with his weaker left-foot and it spun into the top corner. On the stroke of half-time, Totti produced a great strike from outside the box which dipped below the Chievo goalkeeper to grant him a first-half hat-trick. At half-time, Miralem Pjanic was substituted as he had been carrying an injury for much of the first half. On 52 minutes, Totti turned provider as he threaded the ball through to Lamela, who had timed his run perfectly, and the Argentine effortlessly slid the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-0 to the visitors. Lamela was involved in the action again as on the hour mark he was impeded by a Chievo defender and the referee had no choice but to award another penalty. Totti blasted the ball into the top corner to score his fourth goal of the game and his 17th in all competitions this season. Roma weren't quite finished there though. On 78 minutes, substitute Michael Bradley played the ball to Bony who took a touch to take the ball away from the defender and fizzed a shot from just inside the D past Squizzi to complete Brown's biggest win of the season so far.

15/12/12 - Serie A - Chievo 0-6 Roma

MOTM: Francesco Totti - It has been a fantastic month for Totti as he has racked up eight goals in the three games in December so far. To score four goals and assist another in one match is some achievement and no other player came close to getting this award today.

INJURY: After having to be substituted because of an injury in the 6-0 win over Chievo, it has been revealed that Miralem Pjanic has been advised to miss the next two weeks of action to allow his bruised leg to recover fully.

The last Serie A match of 2012 is a crucial one as it is first vs second as Roma host Milan. Going into this match both sides have 39 points but Milan have a better goal difference by four. Both teams want to start 2013 at the very top of the Serie A table however Roma need to win if that team is going to be them.

On 22 minutes, Paulo De Sciglio brought down Bony in the penalty area however Roma played on and Lamela ended up putting the ball beyond Abbiati and into the net. There was controversy though as the referee blew the whistle just before Lamela struck the ball and brought play back to award a penalty. Francesco Totti took the spot-kick however it was saved as Abbiati guessed the right way and tipped it past the post with his left hand. That was the first penalty in nine that Totti has took this season that has been saved and was the tenth that Roma had been awarded in the league this season. On the stroke of half-time, Erik Lamela used great skill to beat Luca Antonini and rifled his strike past the Milan goalkeeper to give Roma the advantage. On 54 minutes, Lamela played a delightful little pass through to Bony who turned Cristian Zapata and blasted the ball into the net to give Roma a crucial 2-0 lead in this top of the table clash. In injury time Roma were unlucky not to score a third as De Rossi's initial shot was saved by Abbiati, the follow-up header by Osvaldo was kept out by the goalkeeper and the Argentinian was denied again as Antonini blocked another shot.

Full-time followed shortly after to confirm Roma had beaten first-placed Milan to go three points clear at the top of the table heading into 2013.

22/12/12 - Serie A - Roma 2-0 Milan

MOTM: Erik Lamela - While the plaudits for most of the month had gone to Francesco Totti, today proved that the young are just as important as the old as 21-year old Lamela stole the show with a goal and an assist to send his team top of the Serie A table.

In the next update, we see how well Roma do in a jam-packed January with a Coppa Nazionale Round of 16 tie with Fiorentina kicking things off followed by five Serie A matches, including two tough games away to Napoli and Inter at home.

December 2012

The Madrid derby has arrived. Two teams that share an immense rivalry due to the fact they both live in the capital of Spain. Real have had a tough season so far. They sit in third, behind Barcelona and their city rivals Atletico Madrid. Atletico have won all of their thirteen matches this season but they know that they have a very high chance of dropping points at the Santiago Bernebau.

Real Madrid 3-6 Atletico Madrid

di Maria 22'
Vilhena 27'
Vilhena 33'
Y.Toure 38'

C.Ronaldo 40'(p)
Khedira 42'
Deulofeu 59'
Koke 74'
Falcao 78'

This win means Atletico stretch their lead over Real Madrid to 13pts. It was indeed a brilliant game to watch for the neutrals with a 9 goal goal-fest. The man of the match was quite simple to pick. Tony Vilhena. The young 17 year old from Holland notched two goals and made a goal line clearence. He also made 2 assists. The only poor part to his performance was that he gave away a penalty with Ronaldo converted. "I am delighted with the lads performance today. It's not often you can say 'We scored 6 goals against Real Madrid'. I think we took 28 shots in the entire game so I'd say it was a deserved win." said di Matteo.

Atletico Madrid 5-0 Deportivo

Vilhena 17'
D.Luiz 29'
Falcao 61'
Y.Toure 84'
Y.Toure 89'

Atletico Madrid 1-1 AZ Alkmaar

Erkin 21'
N'Doye 84'

Atletico Madrid fail to win for the first time this season. "I do not care about this result. We have already won this group." Momar N'Doye's 4th goal in 5 games saved Atletico from defeat. The Europa League draw for the Round of 32 was kind to Atletico Madrid. They drew Austrian club SV Ried". Next up on the road for the club from Madrid was a very tough test against the reigning Spanish Champions, Barcelona. Another 1st vs 2nd.

Barcelona 2-1 Atletico Madrid

Falcao 19'
Messi 53'(p)
Tello 61'

Atletico Madrid suffer their first defeat of the season as their lead at the top of the table is cut to 6pts. It was an even first half but in the second half, Barcelona taunted the home team with their cruel passing moves. "It was coming. We had to lose eventually. It's only fitting to lose against the best team in the world. The lads performed well and were unlucky to taste defeat in my opinion", di Matteo told the press.

Xerez 1-3 Atletico Madrid (1-7 agg) - Copa del Rey

Falcao 51'
Suarez 54'
Vilhena 77'

Mendoza 80'

Atletico Madrid easily sweep aside Xerez to move into the Round of 16 in the Copa del Rey. They have been drawn against Getafe.

Atletico Madrid 0-0 Celta Vigo

A very boring draw with 3 shots in the entire game. Thibaut Courtois had to pull off a stunning save to stop Krohn-Dehli from nicking it for Celta Vigo. Di Matteo said, "This is the first time this season I can say my team played poorly. No desire and no hunger. Our lead has been slashed to 4pts so we must be very careful now".

Atletico Madrid 4-1 Getafe - Copa del Rey

Falcao 11'
Vilhena 37'
Falcao 58'

Alvaro 66'
Falcao 89'

A hat trick from Radamel Falcao has given Atletico Madrid a huge advantage going into the second leg of their Copa del Rey round of 16 tie. The Colombian has bagged 22 goals in 20 appearances this season.

Getafe 1-2 Atletico Madrid (2-6 agg) - Copa del Rey

Y.Toure 39'
Alvaro 41'
Y.Toure 55'

A brace from the big Ivorian Yaya Toure ensured that Atletico Madrid went through to the Quarter Final of the Copa del Rey. "I have really enjoyed playing in Madrid and I can't wait to see how we will fare at the end of the season. I hope I can keep my good form up" Yaya said."

Season 2012/13 - Difficulty: Legendary - Part Five

November 2012

After the disappointing defeat to Parma on Halloween, Roma were looking to bounce back in their Coppa Nazionale Third Round clash against mid-table Serie B side Bari. After 17 minutes, Bari whipped in a corner which was headed past Stekelenburg by defender Diego Polenta to put the underdogs in front. However that lead only lasted for three minutes as Francesco Totti struck a firm left-footed shot from inside the D past the Bari goalkeeper to level the score. On 38 minutes, the ball fell to Bony who dribbled with the ball into the box and put a left-footed strike high into the corner to ensure his side went into half-time with the one goal advantage. Mid-way through the second half, there was some intricate play between Pjanic, De Rossi and Osvaldo which eventually left the striker with a simple chance to score which he duly took by sliding the ball past the goalkeeper. Bari responded immediately though as only two minutes later, a one-two between Iunco and Romizi saw the former hit a great shot past Stekelenburg to go back to within reach of the Serie A side. Roma's two-goal cushion was restored after 79 minutes when Totti latched onto the goalkeeper's mistake to score his second on the night and his eighth in all competitions this season. That was the final goal of the match and so Roma progressed to the Round of 16 of the Coppa Nazionale after seeing off another Serie B side.

In the draw for the next round, it was revealed Roma would play Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. That match will be played on the 8th January.

07/11/12 - Coppa Nazionale Third Round - Roma 4-2 Bari

MOTM: Francesco Totti - The 36-year old scored two goals and completed the most passes of my attacking players to help secure Roma's place in the next round.

Brown looked to build on that last win in his next Serie A match which was against mid-table Torino at home. Francesco Totti swung in a corner on 14 minutes which was nodded in by Roma's number 14, Wilfried Bony. After 38 minutes, Torino's captain Rolando Bianchi poked in a rebounded shot which made the scoreline 1-1. Totti got himself on the scoresheet right on half-time as he struck a shot beyond Jean-Francois Gillet. Roma found it easy from that point on. After 57 minutes, Totti was involved again as he passed the ball to Osvaldo in the box who turned and let loose a ferocious effort which went in off the underside of the crossbar. On the hour mark, Bony ran down the left-hand side and slid a pass between two Torino defenders to the incoming Osvaldo who took a touch and then blasted home his second of the night. In the 76th minute Roma were awarded their fifth penalty of the season after Osvaldo had his shirt pulled in the box. The man who scored the previous four spot kicks - Totti - had already been substituted so Osvaldo stepped up and tucked it away to complete a second-half hat-trick. That goal was the Argentinian's tenth of the league campaign and his twelfth in all competitions. 5-1 was the final score and as well as three points on the board, Brown had led his team to their biggest win of the season thus far.

- Osvaldo celebrates after scoring a penalty to claim his hat-trick.

18/11/12 - Serie A - Roma 5-1 Torino

MOTM: Pablo Osvaldo - Although Totti had a great game with a goal and two assists, the award has to go to Osvaldo. He scored Roma's first hat-trick of the season with the time between his first and third goal only 19 minutes.

Three days after that brilliant win against Torino, Roma faced 10th-placed Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico. Things started off badly for Roma as some intricate play by the Palermo forwards fooled the defence and 19-year old Paulo Dybala was left with a tap in from six yards to put the visitors one-nil up. On 34 minutes, Bony ran with the ball into the box and shifted his body as if to shoot with his left. He then cut the ball back, struck it with his right and it went past the goalkeeper and in off the post to level the score. Palermo's goalkeeper Sorrentino pulled off some excellent saves throughout the match to keep out Totti, Osvaldo and Marquinhos. Just after the hour mark, Bony hit the outside of the post and was unlucky not to put Roma ahead. With ten minutes to go, the Ivorian showed his great close control and dribbling ability to get past a defender and rifle the ball into the roof of the net to give the Giallorossi a 2-1 lead. Brown wanted to secure the points so changed the formation of his team to a 5-4-1. Despite these overwhelmingly defensive tactics, Federico Balzaretti found himself in the opposition half and threaded the ball through to Bony who used his strength to hold off a defender, turn and slot the ball into the net for his first Roma hat-trick.

That win saw Roma go third in the table, however the top three are only separated by goal difference. Second-placed Napoli have played an additional game too so things are looking good for the team from the capital.

21/11/12 - Serie A - Roma 3-1 Palermo

MOTM: Wilfried Bony - After a slow start, the striker seems to have settled to life in Rome as six of his seven goals have come in the last six games. He played brilliantly against Palermo and got a well-deserved hat-trick.

Brown's final match of the month was a league match away to rock-bottom Pescara. Roma got off to a flying start as Erik Lamela scored his sixth Serie A goal of the season by cutting in on his left-foot and blasting the ball into the top corner. On 28 minutes, a tame shot was parried by Stekelenburg straight back into the danger area and Abbruscato managed to get in front of Burdisso and score a diving header into an open goal to level it up. On the hour mark, Miralem Pjanic scored his first league goal of the season to put Roma back in front and it was a stunner. Totti played the ball into him, he turned and shot from 30 yards out and the ball floated into the top right-hand corner of the net. However as the saying goes, every rose has its thorn, and Abbruscato was proving to be that thorn in the side of Roma as only two minutes after that wonderful Pjanic strike, Abbruscato outjumped Burdisso at the other end of the pitch and nicked a header at the front post. Despite Roma's best efforts. they couldn't find a winner and it ended all square. It was disappointment for Roma as they failed to secure three points against the side bottom of the table.

The last game of the month seems to be the achilles heel of this Roma side as they have dropped points in all four of those matches so far this season.

25/11/12 - Serie A - Pescara 2-2 Roma

MOTM: Elvis Abbruscato - The wily 32-year old was the bane of Roma in that match and scored two vital goals to ensure his side got their share of the spoils.

AS Roma - 2016/17

1st January - 23rd January

FC Porto have reportedly had a £10 million bid rejected by Roma for 26 year old forward Bojan.

Another injury to add to Shortman's list after Diego Lopez is ruled out for 5 months with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

Roma 4-2 Catania

Doukara 14'
Bojan 19'
Corvalan 56'
Osvaldo 64'
Florenzi 83'
Bojan 87'

Pjanic returns to the side after a lengthy injury. A six goal thriller which saw Roma come from behind twice to secure three points. A brace from Bojan and a man of the match performance from Florenzi proved too much for 5th placed Catania.

English newspapers are today reporting that Arsenal keeper Vita Mannone is a wanted man. Roma are rumoured to be looking into his signature as well as rivals Catania and Wigan Athletic. However further reports state that Roma are in personal talks with Norwich City keeper, Baumann and Villarreal striker Robert Beric.

Roma 3-1 Pescara

Moberg-Karlsson 3'
Bojan 10'
Bojan 42'
Florenzi 67'

Roma were the team who progressed to the next round of the cup. Bojan took his goal tally for the season in all competitions to 10. Florenzi also continued his run of good form and grabbed his 7th goal of the season in all competitions. With Shortman having only been at the club for one month, silverware is very much a possibility as his side await the quarter-final draw.

Roma have confirmed that they have completed the £4.3 million signing of 26 year old goalkeeper, Oliver Baumann. "I'm excited for the fans to see this player in action. He is a fantastic keeper and he will deliver." Baumann has signed a 3 year contract worth £30,000 a week.

Torino 3-2 Roma

Suciu 45'
Meggiorini 51'
Caicedo 66'
Osvaldo 90' pen
Suciu 90'

A match which finished in a dramatic fashion. Roma fought from 2-0 down and a 90th minute penalty for handball looked certain to rescue a point for the away side. However Torino found time to strike again and break Roma hearts. Shortman was livid with the officials asking where the extra time came from. Not the best of debuts for new boy Baumann as he saw 3 shots ripple the net behind him.

Roma 3-3 Inter

Tallo 6'
D'Alessandro 19'
Guarin 35'
Afellay 62'
Tallo 69'
Bojan 90' pen

A real battle between 2nd and 3rd place in Serie A. Inter looked ready to walk away victors before they conceded a penalty in the 90th minute for a quite blatant handball. Bojan was on hand to dispatch it in the final seconds of the game. Shortman expressed his disappointment about the fixture schedule; "We've had to play two game in three days and quite frankly that is ridiculous. Never had anything like this in the Russian League. I don't see why the fixture couldn't have been moved to another date because yes, it did affect our game."

Breaking news: Shortman announces the signing of 25 year old Villareal striker Robert Beric for £4.3 million.
