Quality posts are what we hope so see, no one-liners and keep general chat to the Career Mode Discussion if it's regarding Career Mode or to the General Discussion/PM if it's off-topic. This thread is a good read and echoes our ideas on content in the forum, it's suggested you read it at least once to be sure of what we expect of the members here.
This thread is strictly for career mode updates and responses to those. Results, stories, signings and things of that nature are to be posted here. Anything else (things not related to another member's or your own update) does not belong here and instead belongs in the Career Mode Discussion thread and as always, follow the forum rules.
In regards to stories (SOMS'?)
In previous forums people were free to make threads for their career mode stories, but I think for every 1 good one there will likely be 10 bad ones, bad being just poorly written, ones that are given up on after a few updates and multiple that are all made by the same guy are a few examples. It could get to a point where over half of the threads on the first page are peoples stories. Instead they will all go here. If one particular member is consistently putting out good updates over a period of time then they could be granted permission to have their own thread but until then I think just having it all in one thread would be tidier. It could be argued it'd be bothersome to have a thread to house all the updates but to counter this the following post will archive peoples stories and updates to help people keep up with their favourites.

May 2013 - Season Finale
With the season drawing to a close, performances matter for nothing, only results. La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League and Europa League were still to be decided.
Atletico Madrid 2-2 Valencia
N'Doye 17' Guardado 23' N'Doye 62' Valdez 70'
Roberto di Matteo was forced to start a weaker team against fourth placed Valencia because of an extremely tight fixture schedule. Senegalese striker Momar N'Doye scored twice to give Atletico Madrid another point in their fight to become champions of Spain. "This is the business end of things at this time of the season", di Matteo said, "We played well today and I can only see one name one the trophy come the end of the season".
Deportivo 1-0 Atletico Madrid
A.Santos 59'
Deportivo shocked Atletico Madrid as they defeated the league leaders. The club from North-West Spain dominated the match and came away with a fully deserved 3 points to prolong the celebrations even further for Atletico. di Matteo told the press that,"They earned the 3 points today. They didn't scramble for it. They wanted it more than us and so they got their reward".
Sevilla 1-2 Atletico Madrid
Y.Toure 14' Trochowski 61'(p) C.Rodriguez 65'
This win leaves Atletico Madrid 3 points away from their first La Liga title since 1977. Atletico Madrid were the dominant force in this match and they were leading through Yaya Toure after 15 minutes. Just after the hour mark, Trochowski was fouled in the box by Dede and he stood up and cooly converted the penalty. Cristian Rodriguez scored with his first few touches after coming off the bench to but Atletico back ahead and it stayed that way.
Barcelona were the next team to take away points from the league leaders Atletico Madrid who could've won La Liga tonight. Pedro scored early on to give the Catalan side the lead and in the 58th minute Koscielny fairly slide tackled Messi. The referee thought otherwise and sent Koscielny for an early shower. However, Atletico won possession from Barca after the free kick and N'Doye outpaced the entire Barcelona defence to slot home an equalizer. 5 minutes later, Lionel Messi wriggled through the Atletico defence and put his side back into the lead. However, N'Doye scored straight from kick off to level the match again. Alexis Sanchez scored a last gasp winner and so the trophy presentation had to wait even longer. "I would've loved it if we clinched the title against Barcelona and so would the fans. Unfortunately we didn't. Playing against Barcelona with 11 men is hard enough but being a man down is near impossible", di Matteo told the press.

It was an even game full of chances. Some went begging and some were rounded off. Koscielny was late on his challenge on Valbuena in the 35 minute. Valbuena whipped the free kick and it was expertly headed in by Nicolas N'Koulou to give Marseille the first goal in the final. Right before half time, Atletico Madrid won a free kick on the edge of the area. Falcao stepped up and Marseille got out of jail as he curled the ball against the bar. Falcao had his chance later on though as he scored a spectacular bicycle kick to put Atletico Madrid back on level terms. The affair was cagey from then on, neither side wanting to concede. Atletico Madrid got the final chance in regulation time as the ball was played into the box, hit of Wanyama and fell to the feet of David Luiz who smashed home with the last kick of the ball. Luiz went off for his lap of honour and Atletico Madrid, fans, staff and players, wildly celebrated a spectacular victory. Marseille were left shattered. "David Luiz. I could kiss him right now. We played well and to snathc it right at the death is a great feeling. THis feels nearly as good as when I won the Champions League with Chelsea", di Matteo said.

The two fierce rivals clashed again, this time in the Copa del Rey final. Real Madrid look set to lose out on the league title to Atletico Madrid so they'll want to get one other their rivals today. Atletico Madrid must be very tired after winning the Europa League 2 days ago. They will hope this tight schedule doesn't affect their gameplay. Real Madrid made some very early chances with Ronaldo firing just over the bar and Ozil heading just wide but in the 34 minute, Yaya Toure chanced his arm from outside the box and hit a wonderful drive into the bottom corner to put Atletico 1-0 up. Adrian was played through on goal by Deulofeu right before half time and he cooly put the ball past Iker Casillas to make it 2-0. Ozil had many chances to get Real level, squandering a chance from close range and hitting the post with a curling shot. Sergio Aguero came on for the last 20 minutes or so and he smashed home in stoppage time to complete the rout of Real Madrid. di Matteo spoke to the media after the game. It's amazing really. 2 cups in 3 days. There will be a lot of partying tonight. The boys performed superbly today. Beating Real Madrid 3-0 shows how much we have improved over the course of the season".

Atletico Madrid win the 2012-13 Copa del Rey
Osasuna 0-2 Atletico Madrid
Falcao 28' Falcao 45'
Atletico Madrid win their third trophy in as many games to complete part 3 of their treble. Yaya Toure whipped in a deep cross from the right flank and Falcao jumped highest to glance a header into the top right corner. Falcao then put the ball into an empty net after Sergio Aguero's shot was parried. "It is another amazing achievment for the lads. We've waited a long time for another La Liga title and now it's here", Roberto di Matteo voiced. It was a very shaky end to the season with Atletico Madird only picking up 7 points out of 15 this month.

Real Zaragoza 2-1 Atletico Madrid
Apono 21' Postiga 78' Koke 89'
Di Matteo fielded a full strength team so they could win their final game of the season but they got beat 2-1 by mid table side Real Zaragoza.
Finally a bit of a boost for Shortman and his side as they produced a sufficient performance to bag three points. Bojan continued his fine run of form with what turned out to be the only goal of the game but an important one nevertheless.
Cagliari 1-1 Roma
Milanov 7' Florenzi 68'
The usual starting XI were put out against 18th placed Cagliari and it really was another disappointing result for the side. Milanov gave his side the lead early on. Lamela was injured after a collision with a Cagliari defender in the box and had to come off. Shortman has confirmed he has suffered a sprained ankle and will be out for 4 weeks. Florenzi equalised for the visitors after the hour mark with a quick burst into the box to beat the defenders. With this draw, Roma are 10th as we head into an international break.
Further bad news for Shortman and Roma as it has been confirmed that Caicedo has suffered medial collateral ligament damage and will be out until the new year.
Roma 4-0 Genoa
Bojan 28' Osvaldo 44' pen Osvaldo 48' Pjanic 55'
Bojan opened the scoring with a left footed drive into the corner of the net. There was a good shout for a penalty soon after when Florenzi was clearly pulled down in the box. However justice was served after the ref blew for another incident which he spotted this time. Osvaldo converted the spot kick and completed his brace almost straight after the break. Pjanic smashed home a fourth to bag the much needed points for Roma and send them straight up to third in the league. In other news Inter were given a shock loss by Napoli (1-2) who have had an incredibly poor start to the season but that win sent them up to 12th in Serie A.
Roma 2-3 Everton - Europa League
Barkley 4' Robben 28' Soderburg 61' Bojan 80' Mayuka 83'
Still looking for their first win in the Europa League group stage, Shortman fielded the side which demolished Genoa. Barkley put the visitors ahead after 4', nodding in a header from a corner. However Robben ran through on goal 20 minutes later to level the score 1-1. A controversial penalty was awarded to Everton with replays showing Fabio made full contact with the ball. Luckily Baumann got a strong hand to the spot kick to deny the Toffees. Further controversy after half-time as Everton went ahead through a Soderburg tap in. Initially players called for offside but replays showed that an injured man on the ground just about played the Everton forward onside. Players and staff were enraged at the decision. Still Roma battled on and had the better chances. Bojan levelled the score once again with a superb piece of control to chest and volley the ball in first time from a long through ball from Pjanic. However just 3 minutes later Mayuka burst through Roma's defence and nicked all 3 points for his side.
Palermo 0-3 Roma
Bojan 31' pen Lopez 44' D'Alessandro 87'
With an action packed schedule for Roma, a change up to the starting XI was required. D'Alessandro and Lopez join Bojan to form a fierce front three and Viviani and Tachtsidis come in at midfield. Lamela also makes the bench, returning from injury. Palermo are currently rock bottom in the league and are desperately looking for any kind of points. Palermo started off strong and they poured forward in each attack, keeping possession and trying to find a hole in Roma's defence. Today however Roma's defence looked pretty solid. Half an hour in, Tachtsidis was pulled down unnecessarily just inside the box and Bojan cooly converted the penalty to put Roma up 1-0. Lopez bent a second around the keeper to double Roma's lead and D'Alessandro finished things off with a bullet of a shot which he drove right across the keeper into the far corner. Elsewhere Inter suffered another defeat, losing 2-1 to Lazio and champions Juventus were beaten 1-0 by Atalanta.

Roma have a tough 5 fixtures ahead of themselves. They face 3 Italian giants in the league and have a Europa League match in which they must win to have any kind of chance of qualifying. With league results looking up it appears as if the board still trust Shortman to deliver results.
Accrington Stanley have officially announced on there website that Mr Loifur has taken over the managerial position with the club and has agreed to a 3 year contract. Mr Loifur who is inexperienced with being a manager had this to add.
"I'm delighted to have been approached by Accrington Stanley. Not many managers would want to manage this club because they're in League 2. However I can see the possibility for greatness with this club. I have already signed two players for the club and I will reveal the names later on today. I will take Accrington Stanley and there fans all the way to the Barclays Premier League. I can't do it without the backing of the fans and the owners of the club. In my first season here I will try to gain promotion to league 1 and hopefully win either the FA Cup or Capital One Cup."
Transfers:
Alex Brosque - Free Agent Pedro Azogue - Free Agent
"I'm delighted at both players for signing with Accrington Stanley. I have said to both (Alex) Brosque and (Pedro) Azogue that they will be receiving a lot of game time at this club and that they are part of this clubs future. Both are delighted with there roles and have fully understood what my plans are for them. They have also promised to give me 110% per training session and match that they are participating in. Hopefully (Alex) Brosque and (Pedro) Azogue aren't that last two people to join my new revolution here at Accrington Stanley."
How is my first proper update? Do you like it, and if so could you tell me what you like and dislike about it so I can work on it for the next update which will be after I've played 10 games...

Shortman
AS Roma - 2017/18
Update 38
Roma 0-0 FC Augsburg
Shortman went with a weaker line up for this first Europa League game of the season, with a meeting with league champions Juventus just three days away. Baumann gets a chance in goal with Castan and Angel coming into the defence. Tachtsidis gets a rare start along with Viviani in the heart of midfield. Robben, Beric and Caicedo all start at the front for Roma. Roma players will desperately be asking themselves how they only left with one point from this match. It was a dominant display in which Roma had 12 shots in comparison to Augsburg's 0 shots. A quite astonishing tie, one which Roma will be kicking themselves about for a long time to come.
Juventus 3-0 Roma
Gabbiadini 24' Giovinco 39' Gabbiadini 64'
Stekelenburg, Okore and Fabio all return to the side after a rest, as do Bojan, Lopez and Lamela. Shortman helped Roma complete the double over Juventus after joining the club in December last season and will be looking to repeat that this season. It wasn't to be for Shortman's side today. An excellent goalkeeping display from Muriel was the reason it was so one sided. Roma heaped the pressure on the Juve defence consistently but everything was saved my Muriel. Gabbiadini beat Fabio to a through ball in the box and drove it across the keeper to the far post for Juve's opener. Some trickery from Giovinco fooled Roma's defence as he turned and simply slotted it home in the box. Gabbiadini stole a third goal to finish off the beating. Today marked Bojan's sixth game without a goal. The striker also had a long goal drought towards the end of last season but broke it with a stunning hat trick.
Roma 1-2 Atalanta
Marilungo 8' Basha 61' Lamela 83'
Shortman fields another mixed up side due to the short space of time in between the past 2 fixtures. Beric starts upfront with D'Alessandro out on the right. Viviani takes his place in midfield and Baumann is back between the sticks for Roma. Atalanta dominated the match and Roma never really got going. Lamela pulled one back in the final ten minutes and fans were hoping of a comeback but it wasn't to be. This loss sees Roma crash down the table into 10th place.
Udinese 4-4 Roma
Osvaldo 4' Bojan 16' Lamela 24' Guilherme 30' Bojan 36' Fabbrini 43' Fabbrini 51' Muriel 78'
Shortman fields his usual line up for the first time this season. He feels this is his strongest team and is going all out to improve his sides league form with fans becoming increasingly agitated. Fans were treated to an 8 goal thriller, 'treat' a term Roma fans might not be using. Osvaldo put his side up quickly, getting to a rebound first to knock it in. Bojan broke his goaless streak with an accurate shot into the corner. Lamela put Roma 3-0 up before half an hour with a lovely solo goal, fooling the defender and keeper with stepovers and curling it in at the far post. Guilherme got one back for his side but fans weren't worried as Bojan doubled his tally, making it 4-1. From here on Roma fell apart. A horrible attempt at a pass from Fabio put Fabbrini through on goal to really get his side back in it before the break. After half time Udinese came out and scored again, reducing Roma's lead to just the 1 goal. Roma began to press higher up the pitch to put the game to bed but their plan was fooled my Muriel who collected the ball and fired home to level the score and bag a point for his side. Roma remain 10th after this and Udinese stay in 9th place, 1 point ahead.
L.Warszawa 2-2 Roma
Pjanic 10' Furman 24' Bojan 32' Kosecki 90'
Baumann returns in goal for this Europe League match. Antei and Angel get starts in defence, Tachtsidis comes in at midfield and the front three line up as Robben, Bojan and Marquinho. A match tainted with incident. A sending off damaged Roma and Shortman has labelled Marquinho as 'idiotic' and 'selfish'. "What a stupid tackle to make. It was poorly timed and I'm really disappointed with a player who has that much experience in the game. As far as I'm concerned right now he has longer than a 1 match ban as I don't want him involved in any more games this season." Marquinho is set to retire at the end of the season. For what it's worth Roma coped fairly well and managed to defend their lead with 10 men almost to the final whistle. After the game there were incidents around the ground of fans running onto the pitch towards the dugout as they are clearly unhappy with Shortman's management. "I honestly don't know what to say. I was looking forward to taking this job last year but I've never had the backing of the fans. Its clear that they do not want me here and that is fine. Maybe I'm not the right fit for this club."
1 L.Warszawa 4 2 Everton 3 3 Roma 2 4 FC Augsburg 1
Upcoming fixtures
Roma v Bologna Cagliari v Roma Roma v Genoa Roma v Everton - Europa League Palermo v Roma
In fans eyes relatively easy league fixtures and they won't accept anything less than the maximum 12 points from them. Roma also face a tough test in the Europa League with a tie against Everton.

Atletico Lead The Way At The Turn of the Year
Calderons men have shown true guts and determination in the opening 23 fixtures. A run of six wins without conceding a goal as the season began propelled Atletico to the top of the table, many pundits saying if they do indeed go on to win the title these opening six games may be the reason.
quote Guillem Balague
Atletico really flew out of the traps, no-one could live with them in the opening weeks. If they do intend to really push for the title those 18 points may be crucial
Atleticos title push has been mainly pushed on by the front 4 of Radamel Falcao, Edinson Cavani, Wilfried Bony and Stephan el Shaarawy. Who between them have so far scored 75 goals in the Liga BBVA, Spanish Cup and Europa League. This form had led to speculation, especially about Cavani and el Shaarawy. Manchester City tabling 30+ million offers for each player, but Calderon had this to say;
quote Pedro Calderon
Teams pushing for titles are not in the habit of selling their top goalscorers. Have you ever seen Manchester United selling their top scorers mid-season? No. It's not how titles are won. The players are happy here, playing good football and enjoying themselves. They're in no rush to go anywhere.
Weather Atletico can maintain this form remains to be seen, but if they can it looks like the title will be heading to Madrid this season, just not the stadium most expected.

RC Deportivo La Coruña RETURN TO THE TOP
Part 2: The "Five Year Plan"
In an interview today Jose Luis Oltra, manager of newly promoted Deportivo, outlined his plan of action to return Deportivo to their "rightful place" among Spain's elite.
"I believe in 5 years we can be in the Champions' League once again. Every year you have the two clubs fighting for the title [Real Madrid and Barcelona] and then you have four or five clubs chasing them; Valencia, Sevilla, Atletico [Madrid] and Malaga.. I think we have what it takes to become as good as these clubs in the next 5 seasons."
21 year old Oliveira impressed for Portugal at Euro 2012
Oltra's plan involves investing heavily in the future with the purchases of promising youngsters and improving the club's youth academy to be able to produce top quality players. The key to staying in La Liga in the short term lies in Oltra's loan signings, with midfielder Abel Aguilar providing an experienced partner for Deportivo's young star Juan Dominguez, and exciting young Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira secured to provide a steady return of goals.
The striker made his debut for Portugal earlier in the year and was selected for the side's Euro 2012 squad, making 3 substitute appearances in the side's run to the semi-finals. For Oltra, Oliveira is another key prospect and the possibility of a permanent deal may be taken up if the young striker impresses.
"With the players we have, and the budget we have, it is true that I have had to turn to the loan market to ensure we have a squad capable of staying up. We have an exciting crop of youngsters in our side, such as Juan Dominguez and Uxío, but they need experienced company who know how to win in La Liga.
"In players like Aguilar, Oliveira and Andre Santos, we have players who have experienced football at the top level for several years and they will keep Deportivo up while our squad evolves and develops."
The club are due to announce further transfer activity in the coming weeks with contract talks understood to be underway with midfielder Fran Merida and defender Carles Planas. If Oltra can follow through with his 5 year plan, then it's an exciting time to be a fan of Deportivo La Coruna.
