This thread is for your Career Mode Updates. Quality posts are what we hope so see, no one-liners and keep general chat to the Career Mode Discussion if it's regarding Career Mode or to the General Discussion/PM if it's off-topic. This thread is a good read and echoes our ideas on content in the forum, it's suggested you read it at least once to be sure of what we expect of the members here.

This thread is strictly for career mode updates and responses to those. Results, stories, signings and things of that nature are to be posted here. Anything else (things not related to another member's or your own update) does not belong here and instead belongs in the Career Mode Discussion thread and as always, follow the forum rules.

In regards to stories (SOMS'?)

In previous forums people were free to make threads for their career mode stories, but I think for every 1 good one there will likely be 10 bad ones, bad being just poorly written, ones that are given up on after a few updates and multiple that are all made by the same guy are a few examples. It could get to a point where over half of the threads on the first page are peoples stories. Instead they will all go here. If one particular member is consistently putting out good updates over a period of time then they could be granted permission to have their own thread but until then I think just having it all in one thread would be tidier. It could be argued it'd be bothersome to have a thread to house all the updates but to counter this the following post will archive peoples stories and updates to help people keep up with their favourites.

Season 2012/13 - Difficulty: Legendary - Part Eight

February 2013

After a week of international fixtures, the Serie A returned as Roma headed to the city of Genoa to face Sampdoria. As Osvaldo was injured, Wilfried Bony started in his favoured position of striker. Pjanic took Bony's place on the left-wing and Michael Bradley started alongside Daniele De Rossi. It only took eight minutes for Roma to take the lead as Lamela's corner found Bony who had ran from the edge of the box to the six-yard line unmarked to score a powerful header. Sampdoria looked to respond straight away however some fantastic saves by Stekelenburg prevented the home side from equalising. On 18 minutes, Pjanic passed the ball to Bradley in the opposition box after a strong run down the flank. The American played a first-time pass to Bony outside the box and the striker took a touch and then drove a fierce shot past Romero into the top corner to double the away side's lead. Only two minutes later, the Ivorian latched onto a ball that had went over the top of the defence. He outmuscled Gastaldello to run through on goal and coolly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to score a perfect hat-trick in only twenty minutes. It was Bony's second hat-trick for Roma and his 15th goal of the season. After such a hectic start the game understandably died down from that point on. Both goalkeepers produced some good saves but Sampdoria finally pulled one back on 67 minutes as De Rossi sloppily gave the ball away on the penalty spot and Lopez was left with an easy finish. Roma held on though and picked up the three points.

10/02/13 - Serie A - Sampdoria 1-3 Roma

MOTM: Wilfried Bony: Scored a perfect hat-trick in only twenty minutes. Although he was only playing as a striker because of Osvaldo's injury, if he keeps up these performances then the manager will have some serious food for thought as to who to play up front.

Four days later and Roma played Cagliari at home. In the reverse fixture earlier in the season, Cagliari handed Brown his first loss as Roma boss and they were looking to take all three points again. Roma fielded a weak team as they play Juventus in only a few days time and are keeping their big guns for that game. Things got off to a horrible start as Simone Perrotta went down in agony after being tackled by a defender after only four minutes and had to be substituted. It got worse on 16 minutes as Pinilla easily got past Leandro Castan and curved a left-footed strike past Stekelenburg. Six minutes later, Casarini found himself in on goal after young left-back Dodo left him unmarked and scored to make it 2-0 to Cagliari. On the half-hour mark, Mattia Destro drove forward and his low strike from inside the D found its way into the bottom left corner to half the deficit. On 56 minutes the visitors restored their two-goal cushion as an the ball bounced off of Castan and Ekbal nicked in and planted the ball past the goalkeeper. Fifteen minutes from full-time, a quick burst of pace fooled the Cagliari defender and he fouled Destro inside the penalty box. Destro dispatched the penalty with minimum effort to make it 3-2. Although Roma threw bodies forward, a defiant Cagliari side held on and clinched the three points.

Cagliari have incredibly done the double over title-challengers Roma this season. This defeat was Roma's first home loss of the season in any competition and leaves the Rome side three points adrift of first-placed Milan.

- Mattia Destro celebrates his second.

14/02/13 - Serie A - Roma 2-3 Cagliari

MOTM: Mattia Destro: While the majority of the team showed little to no inspiration when Cagliari went 2-0 up, Destro was constantly running around trying to make something out of nothing. He did exceptionally well to get two goals out of that game and it's testament to the youngster's great attitude.

INJURY: Simone Perrotta's season is over as scans reveal that the 35-year old midfielder suffered a broken ankle in 3-2 home defeat to Cagliari.

A crucial battle between second-placed Roma and third-placed Juventus then took place at the Stadio Olimpico. On 19 minutes Totti whipped in a corner and Bony's header went past the diving Buffon but cannoned off the crossbar. Luckily the rebound fell straight back to the Ivorian striker who headed it in. Just after the half-hour mark, Nicolas Burdisso scored Roma's second as another corner proved successful. Lamela got the assist this time. A few minutes later, 19-year old Roma centre-back Marquinhos landed awkwardly on his left knee and had to be stretchered off the field. The Brazilian was replaced by fellow international Leandro Castan. On the stroke of half-time Lamela was played through on goal however he had his shot saved by Buffon. The ball fell to Michael Bradley who squeezed it between Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio to give Roma a 3-0 lead going into the break. Roma sat back and defended for the second-half to try and see out the game. Stekelenburg stopped some fine Juve efforts on goal but the reigning champions got one back after Andrea Pirlo's strike from outside the box nestled into the bottom corner. It proved to be nothing more than a consolation though, and with that win Roma pulled four points away from their opposition in the league table. The Giallorossi were still three points behind Milan in first-place though.

17/02/13 - Serie A - Roma 3-1 Juventus

MOTM: Wilfried Bony - A goal and an assist capped another good performance by the young striker to seal a vital three points.

INJURY: More bad news for Roma as centre-back Marquinhos is ruled out for the rest of the season after injuring his lateral collateral ligament in the 3-1 win against Juventus.

Roma's next task was a visit to 13th-placed Atalanta and what a game it turned out to be. Because of injuries, Brown was forced to play two left-backs in defence. Pablo Osvaldo returned from injury to play up front. Seven minutes in, Osvaldo held off Stendardo and cut the ball back across the face of goal for 19-year old Nicolas Lopez to tap the ball home for his second league goal of the season. Four minutes later Osvaldo was involved again as he played the ball to Florenzi who controlled it and stuck a left-footed strike into the bottom corner. On 20 minutes Osvaldo was fouled in the penalty area and the referee awarded a spot-kick. The striker stepped up and took it but the goalkeeper guessed the right way and kept it out. After 27 minutes, Facundo Parra ran through on goal and planted a strike past Stekelenburg to half Roma's lead. On the hour mark Parra scored again as a darting run by Luigi Giorgi saw the Novara-loanee cross the ball in for the Argentine to head in and level the score. Incredibly, Atalanta took the lead on 69 minutes as a corner was headed beyond the goalkeeper by Italian defender Stefano Lucchini. The home side had come from two goals down to lead against second-placed Roma! Two minutes later, Marquinho fed the ball to Osvaldo who took a touch away from the Atalanta defender and buried the ball in the back of the net to level things at 3-3. With ten minutes to go, Florenzi's shot was blocked but it fell to Osvaldo inside the box who took his chance and fired Roma back into the lead. However, in the 86th minute, Roma's Jonatan Lucca bundled over an Atalanta player in his own box and the referee gave the home team a late penalty. Bonaventura took it but it was saved by Stekelenburg. Roma staved off the Atalanta attack until the final whistle blew and confirmed a brilliant three points for the title-challengers.

20/02/13 - Serie A - Atalanta 3-4 Roma

MOTM: Pablo Osvaldo - On his return from injury the striker scored two and assisted another two to grab Roma an essential three points.

- Pablo Osvaldo after scoring the eventual match-winner against Atalanta.

Roma finished off February with the Coppa Nazionale Semi-Final Second Leg at home to Inter. After winning 3-2 at the San Siro in the First Leg, Roma have a narrow advantage going into this game. This was the fourth match between these two sides this season with Roma having won all three of the previous meetings. This time Inter were displaying a new attacking option up front - they had signed Javier Hernandez from Manchester United on Deadline Day of the January transfer window.

Chicharito came close to opening the scoring only one minute in but the Mexican saw his effort hit the outside of the post. Almost immediately, Roma went up the other end and scored as Pjanic played the ball to Francesco Totti who slotted the ball beyond Samir Handanovic with his left-foot from ten yards out. That was the 36-year old talisman's 19th goal of the season in all competitions and his first since the Round of 16 Coppa Nazionale tie away to Fiorentina at the start of January. On 16 minutes Roma broke away on the counter-attack as Daniele De Rossi threaded the ball through to Bony. He ran all the way through the opposition half, turned Walter Samuel and blasted the ball into the net to give Roma a 2-0 lead on the night and a 5-2 lead on aggregate. Hernandez had a good chance saved by Stekelenburg's foot later on in the first half but it remained 2-0 at half-time. It was a pretty quiet second period with Roma defending their lead. In the 87th minute, Periera hit the crossbar but that was as close as Inter came to scoring. Pjanic had a great opportunity to make it three in the 90th minute but Handanovic produced a smart save. Full-time came and Roma had booked their place in the Coppa Nazionale final through a 5-2 aggregate victory over Inter.

Roma will play Juventus in the final after the Turin club overcame Chievo in the other semi-final with an aggregate score of 5-2.

27/02/13 - Coppa Nazionale Semi-Final Second Leg - Roma 2-0 Inter Roma progress 5-2 on aggregate

MOTM: Maarten Stekelenburg - The Dutchman played well to keep a clean sheet and ensure Roma's place in the final.

AS Roma - 2016/17

Roma 1-1 Cagliari

Osvaldo 66'
Sau 86'

Beric comes in for Caicedo due to his recent good form for the match against 7th placed Cagliari.
It was a scoreline very much a representative of how the match played out. Neither team did quite enough to earn themselves a win. Cagliari had the better chances in the first half, glancing two headers just wide. Roma came back out after the break as the stronger side and Osvaldo rewarded their effort with a goal after an hour's play. However it was back to normal for Roma as they fell asleep in defence and Sau was left to tap into an empty net to earn his side a point.

Genoa 1-1 Roma

Bojan 8' pen
Immobile 24'

Another draw for Roma but the highlight of the match was the manager, Shortman being sent to the stands by the ref for protesting. Shortman was livid after he felt that Bojan was unfairly "thrown" off the ball by a Genoa defender when he was through 1 on 1 with the keeper. This draw sees Roma drop to 4th in the league, 1 point behind Milan.

Lazio 4-2 Roma

Osvaldo 3'
Hernanes 7'
Vinicius Araujo 10'
Bellusci 34'
Van der Wiel 45'
Hernanes 86'

Tallo gets a rare start for Roma for the match against Lazio with Lamela and Osvaldo also returning to the line up after being rested against Genoa. An action packed first half was followed by a rather poor second half for Roma. Osvaldo begun the goalfest with a 24 yard rocket after just 3 minutes but by 10 minutes, Lazio had already scored twice. Bellusci added a third after half an hour after a dead ball was left by Roma defenders for Bell to pick up and fire home. Van der wiel pulled one back for the visitors just before the break with a neat header from close range which flew past the keeper. Roma never really got going in the second half with passes being misplaced and players slipping and sliding everywhere in the miserable rain. Hernanes put the game beyond Roma with another goal in the 86th minute. With time running out fast, Roma can't afford to drop too far away from the Champions League places otherwise it will all be over well before the last couple of games of the season.

Fiorentina 0-2 Roma

Osvaldo 70'
Osvaldo 89'

It's been a tough past couple of games and it gets even tougher for Roma as they play their third match away from home in a row. 4 changes to the side as Baumann starts in goal, Castan in defence, D'Alessandro in midfield and Beric starting ahead of a tired Bojan upfront.
Osvaldo stole the show again with a superb brace to give Roma a much needed win. Roma dominated the match throughout and were getting closer and closer with efforts from Caicedo and Beric. A late brace from Osvaldo takes his goal tally to 22 league goals this season.

Roma 5-1 Napoli

Alderwiereld 6'
Bojan 34'
Torosidis 51'
Bojan 67'
Pjanic 76'
Osvaldo 80'

With Roma finally back in front of their home fans and coming off the back of a victory over Fiorentina, there was an air of confidence about Shortman's side as their readied themselves to face Napoli.
A dominating display from Roma and a message sent out to their rivals that they mean business. A six goal thriller; the pick of the bunch wood have to be a 30 yard free kick from Pjanic which curled into the top left, completely beating the keeper. Bojan scored a great solo goal, taking the ball from the sideline into the area and beating the keeper at the far post. This and the victory against Fiorentina has thrown them right back into the mix for the Champions League spots with other teams like Milan dropping points.

JUVENTUS WIN THE LEAGUE!

Juventus were today crowned the champions of Serie A once again after a 1-1 draw with Inter. Juventus have demolished the other 19 teams in the league this year, winning it with 5 games left to play.

Serie A

1 Juventus 79
2 Inter 64
3 Lazio 61
4 Roma 61
5 Milan 60
6 Atalanta 60

Europa League Semi Finals

Spurs v Wolfsburg
Inter v Arsenal

Upcoming fixtures

Bologna v Roma
Roma v Palermo
Sampdoria v Roma
Roma v Milan
Roma v Torino

Five games left and the battle for the Champions League places couldn't be tighter. Roma have relatively mild opponents with the standout fixture being against Milan which could be the decider. However the very last game is against Torino who have already beaten Roma this season and could destroy Roma's season with a win.

January 2013 - Winter Transfer Window Opens

With the January Transfer Window open it is time for teams to repair themselves after a grueling first half to the season. Atletico Madrid were lining up bids for Porto's young defender Mangala and Celtic's midfielder Wanyama untill they recieved a shock bid from Manchester City for one of their star players...

Luis Suarez Completes Quick Fire move to Man.City. Aguero goes the other way

£33,000,000 was the amount offered and Atletico accepted straight away. Luis Suarez recently voiced to the manager di Matteo that he wanted a move back to the English Premier League and so a quick fire deal was made with Suarez now earning £130,000 a week. He mysteriously left with no comment. The guy enjoyed a fruitful spell in Madrid scoring/assisting over 25 goals in half a season. Roberto di Matteo instantly knew that he had to get another world-class striker to help Falcao and he was undecided between Robert Lewandolski and Sergio Aguero. He then placed an enquiry into both with Aguero being the better value so Sergio Aguero made his return to Atletico Madrid for £35,000,000 after leaving for the Manchester club in 2011. "I love this place and I dreamed of coming back here. Lets hope I play well", were the comments from the Argentine striker. A straight swap deal between Wanyama and Raul Garcia also took place.

Aguero celebrates scoring the title winning goal for Man City.

Mallorca 1-2 Atletico Madrid

Pereira 32'
Falcao 34'
L. Suarez 54'

Real Sociedad 1-2 Atletico Madrid - Copa del Rey Quarter Final 1st leg

N'Doye 82'
Griezmann 84'
D. Costa 90+1'

Di Matteo fielded a full strength team against Sociedad and completely dominated their opposition. They too over 20 shots in the entire game but they had to wait until the 82nd minute to break the deadlock through substitute Momar N'Doye. However, they got too cocky and the home side went straight up the other end to score. Diego Costa had the last laugh though as Momar N'Doye again powered through a tired Sociedad defence and saw his shot hit off the post but be slotted home by another substitute Diego Costa. "It was a nerve wracking final 10 minutes but i'm glad we got the away win. We fully desrved it", di Matteo voiced.

Atletico Madrid 3-1 Real Sociedad (5-2 agg)- Copa del Rey Quarter Final 2nd leg

L.Suarez 33'
Agirrexte 57'
Deulofeu 64'
Adrian 85'

Luis Suarez scored what was soon to be his final goal for the club. Atletico Madrid progress to the semi finals of the Copa del Rey against fellow title challengers Barcelona. Sevilla vs Real Madrid makes up the other semi.

Atletico Madrid 3-0 Real Zaragoza

Y.Toure 6'
Koke 43'
Koke 78'

Koke celebrates scoring a brace

Atletico Madrid 2-1 Levante

Kader 38'
Adrian 53'
Roger 72'

Atletico Madrid fielded a weak team against Levante and still came out with three points. Right back Pere unfortunately suffered a minor sprained ankle and will only miss the Copa del Rey game against Barca and a league game against Athletic Bilbao.

Atletico Madrid 3-3 Barcelona - Copa del Rey Semi Final 1st leg

Falcao 40'
Messi 48'
Song 51'
Aguero 78'
Iniesta 85'
Aguero 90+2'

An exciting game for everyone as the two best teams this season faced off in a six goal draw. Sergio Aguero made his debut for his second spell for Atletico Madrid and scored a vital 2 goals to keep Atletico Madrid in the tie. "It's great to get a goal or two on your debut. I want to help propel this club to a potential treble and at the moment it looks realistic".

Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Atletico Madrid

I.Gomez 40'
D.Costa 66'

Atletico Madrid saw their six point lead over Barcelona at the top be sliced down to four points today.

Barcelona 1-2 Atletico Madrid (4-5 agg) - Copa del Rey Semi Final 2nd leg

Falcao 22'
Messi 24'
Y.Toure 36'

2 first half goals were enough to book a place in the final of the Copa del Rey for Atletico Madrid. They will play local rivals Real Madrid who beat Sevilla 4-1 on aggregate. "It's another huge stride to a trophy for us. Beating Barcelona other two legs is not easy, not easy at all", said Roberto di Matteo. Barcelona manager Tito Vivanola had this to say "It is a shame. WE dominated the match and deserved to go through other 2 legs. We cannot feel sorry for ourselfs though".

AliB110 great update again man. I understand the quite frankly ridiculous fixture schedule of Serie A. It really is a bitch sometimes.

blackmamba1 oh god the hammerings Haha thanks man. Might put out another update tonight at some point.

Just finished off the season with Roma. Nope, no spoilers. Three updates left to post; they're all written up and I've done the end of season updates a little different this time around so I hope those following like it.

One word to describe the last 3 updates of the season: drama.
