The bad economy has to do with it but I don't think its the biggest issue. The vita is doing poor world wide, while the 3ds and other tech are doing fine. Sure smartphones and tablets can be used for work and utility but they cost enough that if money is tight you can get by fine with a regular phone and chances are you don't need a tablet to get stuff done.

I'd like to know what the "cost reduction" will include. I have a feeling its more on the bundle and more affordable accessories, I doubt they would come up with a budget vita yet. I'm actually thinking about getting one to replace my psp thats starting to go on me, but with my luck after I do a new model will be announced or something.
