Religious leaders are outraged after a German court ruled that circumcision infringes on a child's right to be protected from bodily harm.

The regional court in Cologne said that circumcision went against the "fundamental right of the child to bodily integrity outweighed the fundamental rights of the parents." They added that religious freedom would not be curtailed because the child would be able to choose later whether he wanted to have a circumcision. However, if the parents decided for the boy, it changed the body of the child "irreparably and permanently" and went against that child's rights to choose his religious beliefs.

"The religious freedom of the parents and their right to educate their child would not be unacceptably compromised, if they were obliged to wait until the child could himself decide to be circumcised," the court added.
Personally, I hope this sparks a discussion on male circumcision throughout the West/U.S where it is usually performed simply out of custom. I am kind of resentful that my parents essentially mutilated me for life by circumcising me.... It undoubtedly affects the amount of sexual pleasure one feels and knowing what I know now, I would have never wanted my parents to do that. It is hardly a necessary surgery.

People often cite hygienic reasons for circumcision, and that is certainly something to consider, for yourself, when you are old enough to make your own choice.

What do you think about male circumcision? Are you circumcised? Will you circumcise your children? Etc...

Well I don't remember if it was you or someone else making the banana simile, but I am just point out it's not even slightly true for most guys.
As for what women want, i couldnt care less.
If they were going to break up with me over something like that I'd probably just point out their flaws. Because nobody is perfect.
Lucky circumcision is not common here so most women don't care.
Yeah i have to agree with this. "Peeling the banana" is a not a perticularly good comparison.

If one were to actually "Peel their banana" they'd end up with a pretty severe injury. Trust me, i know.

I have noticed you using the simile of constantly peeling bananas a few times now.
It either means you have no idea what a banana is, or the guy you went down on had a medical problem, because its nothing like constantly peeling a banana.
You noticed wrong then, because that was a reference to the other circumcision thread in which someone mentioned that.

Don't know the customs elsewhere, but in America men get it because its what the women prefer.
I always thought the majority of parents opt to circumcise their male child at birth. I can't imagine a man wanting to go get circumcised once he's old enough to make the decision. Seems like it would be very painful. As for being what women prefer: I'm not sure that women care either way lol.
I always hear women telling me they like circumsised. I remember a girl telling me when she gave fellatio that it was like peeling a banana over and over.
Less taking shots and assuming things kay thanks.

Gonna suck if your on of these kids and you run into a woman(or man, whichever way they go) that doesn't like constantly peeling the banana.
It would suck if you're an ignorant person and you run into someone that doesn't like ignorant people.
Yeah I wouldn't like running into ignorant people either.

Due to a rare act of unity from Jewish and Muslim groups, Merkel appears to have rejected the court ruling:

Reuters - Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman promised Germany's Jewish and Muslim communities on Friday they would be free to carry out circumcision on young boys despite a court ban which has provoked concerns about religious freedom.
The scars of the holocaust run deep.... It appears the Jewish lobby has your government by the balls as well.

The hygeine argument is probably the oldest.

It is a relic of a time in antiquity when hygeine in general was a vastly different issue. Bathing was rare, antiseptics, antibiotics and sterilisation were non existant.

In this modern world it is pretty much a non argument. If you get an infection from a dirty penis foreskin is the least of your worries. The strange thing is the foreskin probably evolved to keep out some kind of unwanted infection in the first place. Though thats just a guess. I think washing is probably a better option than chopping stuff off.

Heres something which creeps me out though, i wonder who the first person to do this was. Who was that first person who looked at a new born baby boy and said "I KNOW WHAT HE NEEDS ! WHERES MY KNIFE!".

How the hell do you start a tradition like that?
