The story follows Kirito and Asuna, who are trapped in the virtual reality game Sword Art Online along with 10,000 other people. Death in the game meant death in real life, and the only way to get out is by completing the game by clearing all 100 floors of the world they are in.

So this is basically the only thing new that interests me this season. My friend said the novel was decent, so I have semi high hopes for it. I really love the MMO setting after Hunter x Hunter's Greed Island arc, and hope that this goes well.

I feel like there are ups and downs in the story. Reading the light novel is much better than the anime since you can truly get it all instead of what can be fit in a 24 minute episode. I think the SAO arc is great and then it tampered off a bit in ALO with his relationship with Suga.

Personally, I think the latest work has been the best so far. I prefer when it is all about Kirito, but this arc does share another character who even took the focus a bit in Volume 10. I think this story has been one of the most interesting and has helped return back into what made SAO so good in the first place.

This anime really gets a lot of hate. Yeah, it's not nearly the best and it's main concept is basically what hooks it's audience, but I think it's a very watchable anime. It's easy to get through and in the end, it's entertaining, which is what anime is supposed to be.

I think people are more upset about how much potential is wasted, but do keep in mind this is one of Reki's earlier works and his writing has gotten better as each volume released. He strays away from Kirito being an OP main character and even focuses on Asuna in one volume. Either way, if you watch this anime with that in mind, it really isn't that bad. You get to experience how a writer can improve on how s/he tells a story as the story continues. I still haven't started on Volume 9 yet. I was waiting for Volume 10 because I assumed that it would be 2 volumes to complete the story(like all the rest), but I assumed wrong. Now I'm waiting for Vol 11 to be translated. If that finishes off that part of the story, I'll start on 9.

Volume 11 is out, but it's not being translated by baka-tsuki. I think some blog somewhere is translating it, but I haven't checked it out yet, so no comments on their quality.

I really liked Volume 10 and thought it was one of the better stories. I've enjoyed this whole world and think it is up their with Aincrad.

Wasn't even aware volume 10 was done, it bored me to death somehow.

Does anyone know if Volume 11 of the LN has been released yet? I thought it was supposed to come out in December, but I haven't seen it.

A friend of mine was raving about this show so I'm giving it a go, on episode 19 and am quite enjoying it for what it is.
Around there is where it started to go downhill for me.
I mean, it wasn't horrible by the end of 24, but it could have been a lot better.

I have yet to see the 25th episode. I should get on that.

The characters are very generic and bad, but that isn't a problem. The floor progression and the whole novelty of a death game is what made SAO interesting. It lost that when it went to ALO and had the whole damsel in distress plot.

Also, Sugu just made everything painfully awkward.

In all fairness, I thought the ALO arc was still good. I just found the lack of tension to reduce the impact and I really didn't like what they did with Asuna.
There was some tension on the LN around this arc, now on Asuna i agree that making her damsel in distress was a bit of a bad move, but she dint quite sit there, asuna gave the key to kirito so he could acess the place, and on the other hand she attempted to escape at least twice.

At least she is back in Mother's Rosario, which is pretty much the most sad of the whole SAO verse.
