As earlier stated in an article there was a Shiny Patrat that Dengiki encountered. That was luck as I have played the game and it didn't appear for me.

Actually the first pokemon I encountered was indeed a shiny patrat. I thot it was just like a female version thus being a different color but i looked into it and the grey one with blue eyes is shiny! It worked for me, I was surprised how fast i got a shiny.
That would probably only come down to luck though tbh.

Time to shine. Yes, when you complete the national dex you get a shining charm which improves the rate of shinyness upon encountering a wild Pokemon. (excuse my horrible pun at the beginning)

So...was the shiny Patrat a beta element that was later scrapped?
Well maybe there's like 5% chance it'll be shiny or something. Perhaps it was a random shiny they encountered.
5% chance???? The encounter rate for shinies are 1/8192. I doubt there will be a higher encounter rate than normal, especially one THAT high.

And no shiny patrat????
I know the rate of encountering shiny pokemon. Back in the days of 2nd gen you had 50% chance of getting a shiny from the mystery egg so there could be higher chances than normal, although the guy on 27 minute playthrough encountered Purrlion as his first pokemon.
Never mind then. I never played g/s/c so I didnt know about the mystery egg.
Neither did I. My first Pokemon game was FireRed, but quite a while ago I had nothing to do so I was reading some info about the classics and came across that egg.
I was just reading about the mystery egg on psypoke 10 minutes ago for some reason.
And we gotta admit the only reason gamefreak did the egg was to advertise shinies in g/s/c, tha same reason they had the red gyarados in it, and the highest shiny rate gamefreak will do ever again is the 5% with the pokeradar in d/p/pt.
Chaining wasn't the easiest task you know and if we could achieve those numbers with a simple key item shinies would kind of start become worthless.
I never did chaining in d/p/pt, just didnt have patience too.

And PHI, more than the diploma???

The already are worthless. Some of us unluckier people would just like to get our hands on them easier. Anyway, completing the national dex isn't easy and it's about time we got a reward.

They lie.
They always lie.

But eh, that's not a huge loss. There are better shinies out there.
