I found this pretty insightful. I know that I was having leveling difficulties, and so was Dynamite. I didn't do any gathering or crafting and for BWE2 I did quite a bit of WvWvW more than anything else so I suppose that factors into the troubles.

For BWE3 I did all the hearts in the starting Sylvari 1-15 area, got all the skill points, got all but one of the red double triangle view area map things, all while doing some crafting and gather nodes, and that got me to level 19. I only did about 6 dynamic events, two of which were some giant worm boss fight.
I spent about 5 hours in WvWvW and that got me to level 21 w/ 50% to go to 22.

On that ending note I know where he's coming from. A lot of people in the fighting game community say Street Fighter X Tekken is a garbage game, yet they're all playing it like its Street Fighter 4. Even in high level play they're just using tactics they learned from SF4. They're NOT playing the game how it should be played. If players are just running around doing renowned hearts they're basically playing WoW. Going from one place to the next because the map says so. ArenaNet made a big world. The players need to go explore it.

Eek so I was planning to level through only 90% PvP, 10% would be from the character stories.
Do content, level up. Skip content, don't level up.
That's what I got out of it anyway.

A strong focal point that they made was that you don't have to group up to play GW2 because of the Dynamic events you can just participate without the need to form a group. In the BWE's I've been doing all solo play except for when there's other people around to do DE's.
I found levelling to be tedious but as I mentioned I didn't do some things and stuck to WvWvW for the most part. During the last day I switched back over to my level 18 Ranger and spent time in the Kessex Hills I wasn't finding much troubles getting to 22.

If people think they're too low of level, then they should think about the whole point of an MMO: To team up with other players. I've never died ONCE when I've been with 20+ people running around, even doing difficult mobs or quests. Sure, if I'm on my own or with only a couple of people, I might get owned. But I'll be five levels lower than the suggested quest, and as long as I'm with a large group of other people, I'm perfectly fine. Especially as a ranged character, although being a ranged character is way overpowered in this game, primarily due to the auto-aiming capabilities. Strafing backwards and constantly firing is such an effective tactic that I can usually play many levels above my own with no problem.
I personally never felt myself leveling too slowly. It might be simply because your level doesn't affect that much in this game, or that I'm just a relatively good player. Either way, look for teammates and form parties. You'll never have a problem playing PvE when you team up.

Explains why I didn't have leveling troubles I guess. I explored the crap out of everything. When I "completed" the starter zone, I was 16 or so, and was more than prepared for the next area.
