Good preview for the game. I'll wait before giving me regular wall of text analysis of it. One thing I will mention is that the defending sounds like a load of shit once again, I pray to the Holy One Allah Shearer that Konami gets that sorted because I can't be arsed with another year of getting pissed off at mongol defenders.

If the tackle system is flawed it's going to annoy a lot of people, myself included. Especially if the ref's aren't fixed as well as I can just see myself making a great tackle only for the reft to come running over with a card. I think defending is more important than attacking, so I hope the defending isn't too bad...

it doesn't sound great but i'm not really one for previews as it's just one guy's opinion. as long as it is approved by me, i'll get it
but looking at the new controls, defending doesn't sound too bad, but it will take a bit of getting used to.

I just don't understand why they decided to change the system they had in place before. Fair enough, it didn't take the greatest amount of skill to hold down R1+X and hope you were in a good enough starting position when you held down the buttons, but it's a far superior system to what we've got in place now and there was always the chance the opponent was skilled enough (when it wasn't AI basically) to overcome the 'auto-tackle' combo. I understand they want the player to time their tackles but it's impossible to do that when the action completely wipes you out the game.
Just go back to what we had before and stop fannying around with everything Konami.
Response Defending means you can decide when a defender makes a tackle. With a quick double press of the tackle button, players will now lunge in and attempt to win the ball. The problem is it's the same tackle every time, a desperate leap towards the player. What should be a carefully considered challenge is never worth the risk, especially when combined with the new total control system. In instances where players could simply step in and make an easy tackle, they invariably make a hopeless lunge and more often than not take the player's legs. You feel more likely to win the ball with a lucky block or deflection than by tackling - especially as slide tackling seems to result in players forgetting there's a ball to be won, and going straight for an attacker's kneecaps.

Yeah, that sounds awful. Tackling is such an important part of the game, so if they can't get that right it's going to cause a lot of issues. I can't judge too much without experience it myself, but if this review is close to the mark then it's not sounding good.

Anyway I don't get too hyped off previews for PES anymore. The same type of articles come out before every new Pro Evo game.
