What made seemingly everyone dislike super paper mario? I used to hate it, but after finally finishing it I came to like it.
Outside of being a platformer (which I generally dislike) rather than an RPG, pretty much everything was like PM and PM2. It's actually a little funny since it's the most paper-like PM because of that. And it made me a little interested in side scrollers again.
Honestly the worst part of the game for me is the platforming cities (flipside/flopside). You really should be able to stay in 3D freely then. And a bunch of the generic NPCs being stick figures and hard to distinguish. Other than that, I love the villains, especially Dimentio, music, story, etc.
But after hearing this game will be changing the battle system again I'm hoping it doesn't get the same reception SPM did.
Thread Recap (last 10 posts from newest to oldest)
Super Paper Mario, from the parts I did play, was indeed a very easy game. TTYD will probably always be the hardest game of the series, simply because of the shadow queen. I was never a fan of constantly using charge and all that, so maybe that's why I had a more difficult time. I recall losing quite a few times before eventually winning with about 3 HP left.
I actually like this game a lot, but its far too easy. I can currently inflict more than a thousand damage on a single goomba.
I know what you mean. I beat it in about a week, which for me is very fast. TTYD was definitely harder, the bosses especially. The Shadow Queen was no joke.

I would have been happy if they took away the attack power, and replaced it withb badge points, and replaced the character cards with actual badges. That would have added some strategy and challenge. I love Bleck and Dimentio. Story was really good too, and I like that you can use Luigi, Peach, and Bowser. Don't care for the pixls either.

I can't really say that it bothered me much. I would just turn 3D at the start of the level to see if there was anything and then turn back. Then turn 3D after a while from where you couldn't see before.
I didn't really have a problem with flipping back and forth. I thought it was a pretty nifty feature.
The timer dude, the timer. I'm a huge explorer, that's why I don't do play troughs because they would end up lasting forever. The timer that you are on when you flip into 3D was what really annoyed me.

For me anyways. Just love the original game.
But TTYD was still a fantastic game and I agree that a lot of people were just expecting so much from SPM that they were disappointed.
I think without TTYD, Super Paper Mario would've been accepted a little bit more by fans of the original. Personally, I always thought TTYD was the best game of the 3, even beating out Paper Mario 64.
This is definitely true. TTYD was such a strong game for the, that it got all of the fans' hopes up for the next one. Then, when Super Paper Mario was released, it didn't live up to our expectations. Don't get me wrong, the story for SPM was really good, it was just that everything else was just... meh.

I didn't mind flipping back and forth at all either. Actually, I thought that was one of the more interesting features that made the game playable for at least a little while. I think without TTYD, Super Paper Mario would've been accepted a little bit more by fans of the original. Personally, I always thought TTYD was the best game of the 3, even beating out Paper Mario 64.
