Guys I'm kinda a newcomer to Minecraft, but this has been doing my head in. I'm trying to make a minecart on a powered rail. But everytime I sit in the cart it doesn't move.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

A fail-proof way to get your rails working is to simply make sure there is at least one standard rail between the first gold rail and the rest of the rails you plan to place. On the first gold rail, put a switch or button right next to it and when activated, the charge will launch you. Also, if you happen to be coming back in the opposite direction, that same gold rail will act as a brake, stopping you completely.

What I did to solve this problem was create the rail, then had a sticky piston attached to a block push my minecart when I pushed a button. This way, I just sit in my cart, press the button, the piston pushes the block, and the block pushes me, then I go on my way. I hated having to push my cart before getting in, because sometimes my cart would go flying off without me.
You have to move the cart before getting in it. Either making it on an incline with an non-powered rail stopping it, and adding a button to add power to the rail
That's the one I use, as it's pretty simple. However if you don't absolutely NEED a minecart system, you could wait to the next update, where you could nudge while IN the minecart to go.

You have to move the cart before getting in it. Either making it on an incline with an non-powered rail stopping it, and adding a button to add power to the rail, or pushing the minecart before hopping in it will make it move.

The cart needs to be moving to gain momentum from powered rails, or it needs to be flush with a block. Look on the Minecraft wiki, that'll explain all.
