I would really enjoy not having my cornea's burned out from the extreme lack of contrast and unnecessarily bright colors.
LOD-squa You think you can wip up a full width version of it?

I think that theme looks amazing. I would love to see the GUI updated for the forums like it has been for the rest of the site. They feel behind the times, especially after the rest of the site was updated a few years ago.
I would like to see the same light blue/grey alternating color scheme that is used in the thread views/forum posts as it makes it a lot easier to read through.
I also think the threads and posts should go all the way to the edges of the page instead of having a large buffer on the edges. Makes it seem cramped.

Hey guys! I was taking a look at this thread and I liked some of the mockups that have been done so I took the liberty of making a forum theme based on some of the replies in here. I ended up with this theme. Comments and suggestions are welcome as I will be fixing them as the replies come in.
So with the new homepage redesign the forums should naturally follow suit to right? I wanted to take a shot at it so here's a mockup.
Spoiler:Mockup
I really like this. It looks amazing. I'd support a cosmetic update to something like this big time. It looks new, sleek, and wonderful. I agree on altering the color scheme of course to match the site colors just a pinch more.
And now I've realized what date it is...

dear redemption
please don't change the forum. i think it is pretty cool atm and the only change needed is signatures being a bit bigger. i have tried a few times to put something in my signature but get frustrated with the very low "weight", file size and dimensions, and well simply give up trying to fix it.
also liking posts would be a good addition.
hope you have a good day

Hey Bass Ultra - what would your concept be for revamping the forum main page, and the inside of threads? The main page is an area we're thinking of ways to revamp. I'm thinking it will become 2 column, with the right column reserved for trending topics.

having only recently seen the new homepage design, i think the design on the first page is a really good concept! Bass Ultra
previous to the new homepage, i was against redesigning the forum, as there wasn't much to base it off, in terms of the homepage. i feel the new design has so many more posibilities, design-wise.
a few things re the design on the first post:
- have seen forums with the avatar of the user who created the thread in other forums, and i don't think it's all that effective. isn't that necessary when you've got the name of the user towards the right columns. users may associate certain members through their avatar, but most of the time the name is more important.
- question regarding the light blue panels placed at the left of thread 1, 4 and 5; is that to indicate there is a new unread post in that thread? if so, if that blue box was made a link to the new unread post, that would be a perfect addition. i have found that SO useful on other forums, and i really feel it would keep people around...
- agree with what Redemption said about keeping the date of the last post. if the column with the 'last reply by *new line* user' was extended to the left to include a date (eg. Apr 23, 12 10:28am) between 'reply' and 'by', i reckon that'd be the way to do it. the column looks a bit skinny as it is currently.
re: the width of the forum, i reckon a certain percentage from the edges of the width of the screen would be a good implementation. or perhaps an option for full screen viewing...
only scanned over the last few pages, so apologies if i've already brought up previously addressed issues.
Redemption could also try to make the forums responsive, like if the width of the browser window is smaller than the "right" width for the fixed width layout, then it reverts back to the full width thing. I know some sites already do this in a way.
That's a pretty cool idea. I'm undecided on exactly how to approach it.
I don't think a variable width design would be too ugly using the new samples you and Nagare are showing, but the fixed width does look really good there .
I've been using pretty wide resolutions (1920 and now 2560) for a long time, and I personally dislike widening browsers much past around 1200px wide.
