From here, since Loungin' doesn't have anything productive to say.

Ah, yes; petty criminals. Today, I found out somebody stapled a photo of me on a Facebook page and then claimed to be me. I'm trying to report the offense, but Facebook seems to be broken, and I'm not getting the SMS message I am supposed to get in order to confirm that somebody is pretending to be me. I really want the guy who did this on prison, but I guess I'll have to figure out by myself how to do it. Actually, besides asking for insight, you may talk in this thread about similar experiences.

So yeah, this can potentially pose a threat to me and my loved ones, so it would be best if we could get actual helpful replies.

he probably stole your name to stalk somebody you know. still, if he just stalks them, then all you can do is have the police lock him up for a few days. if he tries to harm them, THEN that's when you can sue him or put him in prison.

You're not alone. I would be the same way, but if it led to being hacked immediately, the ramifications would be a lot harsher than they would be of what happened Magellan CM (yeah I know I spelled your name wrong).

Ok, productive comment coming through. I would be unbelievably pissed off if this happened to me and I would want a warning put out to this person. I wouldn't sue, but I would ask the police to put a warning through to this person. Or asking one of the facebook officials to put a warning out to this person. Something along these lines- but I wouldn't let him get away without being warned that if he goes out of line again, they'll be much more terrible ramifications. But I do overreact to lots of things (major OCD, easy to aggravate etc.)

Isn't this stuff all too common mostly on Facebook? People will even impersonate celebrities, athletes and famous government people.
Well yeah, that is common, because they're famous... impersonating an average guy on FB however is, alarming may or not be the adequate word but considerably less common.
They could impersonate someone attractive who is just an average person. Those people we call creeps.

You google your name once a week to make sure nobody is stealing your pictures pretending to be you? I've never even thought of googling myself to see what dirt I can find.
I have a very uncommon name, so it is scary what I found when i googled it: past addresses, mother, father, sister's names, phone numbers, jobs... And the scariest part was that the info is all accurate.
Another weird thing: until I was 18, my name was spelled wrong on my social security card. When I went to change it, they had the wrong date and year for my birthday.

As for the Facebook imposter: I would just message the guy and comment on all of his statuses that he isn't you, until Facebook takes care of the issue.

Haha same. Plus my name is way too generic for me to personally end up on a google search anyway.
It's nice to know that when people google my name, they'll think I'm the ex-CEO of Microsoft.

Oh, I'm also a serial killer.

Every time I google my name I get an NHL player, which I won't say who he is, but he does play for a New York in the NHL.
