Many more conservative people feel that it is "unprofessional" and even "dirty". As a longhair, I find this akin to discrimination. What gives women more right to wear their hair in any way they wish? As long as a man keeps it clean and tidy, what makes it any less professional than your average close-cropped cut?

What do you think about it?

I have long hair and I like it. It is comfortable and the ladies love it. I keep it clean and soft, but this doesn't keep me from being a man. As stated before: Have long hair, eat steak, I don't drink beer but make up for it by kicking ass and taking names.

Alike Chelskiman, I also have long hair, eat steak and drink copious amounts of beer, so I think that's a win for me. I also get my hair felt up by many ladies in pubs/nightclubs, so it's always a good icebreaker. It's a bit of a pain in the arse, but I really don't want to shave my curly locks off.

I always used to have a joke with my ex because he had hair down past his shoulders and I had short hair to just below my chin.
The only time I wouldn't like long hair on a guy is if it didn't suit him. I saw pictures of my ex with short hair and he looked like a bit of a knob, but he really suits long hair. Exact opposite with my current boyfriend; although he took perfect care of his hair, and let it eventually reach his waist, I couldn't believe that no on had told him what an idiot he looked like.I think it comes down to what suits the individual, rather than saying I don't like any guy with long hair, or any girl with short hair.

I found it funny the amount of abuse my ex would get about his long hair, though; random people shouting at him to cut his hair when we'd walk down the street

Personally if I was a guy there's no way I'd have long hair. Less maintenance = win. I like having long hair as a lady just because I think it looks better on me than short. Also my hair's curly/wavy so long just makes that much more manageable. There's nothing wrong with conforming to social norms to a degree; people completely judge you based on your appearance and there's nothing at all wrong with wanting to make a first impression that fits you. Is it right? Not really, but it not being right isn't going to stop it. First impressions and snap judgements are important, especially from a survival standpoint, and the fact that we all make them isn't likely to change (though how we make them and based on what varies). As for them not being hired or considered as seriously for certain jobs, if I were hiring for a customer service rep (one that would see customers face-to-face), I probably would hire someone who would be perceived as more professional looking over someone less so. It's less so a matter of the length of hair as the person's overall image and if they look credible or not. Someone who doesn't look credible to me is probably not going to look credible to a customer, and therefore reflects badly on my business regardless of if they are actually credible or not. Again, not necessarily right, but that's how it works.

I tried growing my hair out not to long ago. I even made a thread about it on loungin.. I gave up though. To much work, plus I always look good when I go for the multi-colored, messy, spiky look, so I got that.

Long hair on guys is awesome as long as they take care of it.

I've been growing mine for a few years now and I really like it long, it suits me and my face shape better. I'm pretty jealous of girls who can get away with really short hair though, it would just make my face look massively chubby if I tried it.
