Awesome, glad to help!
I wish I knew all of that, and unfortunately I haven't seen any threads about it, but what I do know is:

Attack Stability: Increases Minimum Damage.
Attack Power: Increases Maximum Damage.
Strength: Increases overall damage range (both min and max,) but not as much as Attack+
Ether: Increases magic damage and heal range (min and max), it should also increase buff effectiveness, but I could be wrong on that one.
Weapon Power: Increases the effectiveness of all the other gems on the weapon.
Buff Plus: Increases buff effectiveness of ALL gems slotted on your gear.
Auto Attack/Art Stealth: Decreases aggro gained from respective attack method.
Agility: Increases dodge rate (and I think attack speed.)
Haste: Increases Auto-Attack Speed.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Apologies if this wasn't really what you were looking for, I'll keep an eye out for a thread/forum somewhere that explains more on the topic and post it here if I find one.

Well for Sharla it would be a good idea to put some Auto Attack/Arts stealth gems on her weapons so that the monsters don't aggro her.
Riki deals good physical damage and has a lot of status ailments and dps attacks, so putting str and ether up on him are good. Riki's a jack of all trades, he does a little of everything very well.
As long as you have a boatload of Agi gems on Dunban, he'll be unstoppable. I also put the Unkillable (I think that's the name of it.) Gem that leaves him at 1hp if an attack is supposed to KO him.
Reyn can do some high damage, so putting str gems on him is good, I also put a Double Attack gem on him, and he cuts through stuff like no other.
It's also good to put some stealth/agg down gems on Shulk, as he can't take as many hits as some of the others. Agi gems help out a lot too.
I just threw a HP up gem or two on Melia, seeing as her HP is super low, that and some Ether up gems and she does rediculous damage.

Hope this helps out a little.
It does help. Do you know anything about the relationship between certain effects and how they play out?

For instance it looks like attack+ will raise your damage range. (For instance from 800-1000 to 900-1100) So I guess str raises the frequency of the high hits or is that attack stability only?

And whats the relationship between ether and heals? Does it raise the amount healed on average or the total ceiling?

Or is there a thread somewhere where someone has published the formulas? I'd really like to see something like that.

So I, like many others, have been playing and loving Xenoblade for the past two weeks or since its release. I am 54-ish hours in and have a few questions for those of you that have played the hell out of it. Oh, keep in mind that I don't have all the characters yet so please don't spoil it for me. I have Reyn, Shulk, Sharla, Riki, Melia, and Dunban. I am at Alcamoth/Eryth Sea and currently Melia has left the party for story reasons.

I just spent the last two hours of my play time sorting my inventory and trying to re-equip/gem everyone and realized that I really don't know what I'm doing. So I would appreciate some commentaries/suggestions on my play style.

Shulk-looks like he's a damage dealer, sub-healer type. I have been gemming str/att onto him and maybe agg/down if I can spare it. I guess ether could help his heals but idk if its worth it.

Dunban-he's my tank so I just gem agi, physical protect, hp, and aggro onto him. but he has a high base att/str so I was wondering if it would be better to put some att/str onto him instead of the aggro up. The main problem I have with him is that Shulk hits so hard with his back stab that Dunban struggles to keep aggro.

Sharla - I don't have too much of a clue with her. She serves primarily as a healer so I just put ether and agg down onto her. maybe some str/att to round her out but im not too sure.

Now thats my main party. I would like to experiment with the others but I don't really know how to use them, or what to gem onto them. These are my guesses but please correct me.

Reyn - he seems simple enough. Just a damage sponge. Gem stuff like hp/str/muscle/agg. Probably wont use him too much but he does seem to have high ether def so if I encounter something that Dunban cant dodge I figure it will be good to have him as a back up.

Melia - really beats me. I used her for a few hours when I got her but I don't see the big deal? She has buffs which are decent but they don't seem good enough to warrant dropping a dd or a healer. Her heal spell might be ok when it gets leveled up but the first few stages of it wasn't cutting it on **** that I needed healing for. Im level 44 and only messed around with Melia back in the mid 30s, so maybe shes better now. I need to look into it. Im guessing she might be a mage type? But when I got her she didnt have any damage spells or didn't seem to.

Riki-no idea at all. His strength is ok but his weapons are weak so hes not a physical character. He has phenomenal hp but no aggro increasing abilities so that means he cant really be a tank. I guess hes supposed to be a mage as well. Ether/elemental up?

That's what I've got so far. Please feel free to comment on the above and let me know what I'm doing wrong (or right) and any suggestions. Thank you.
