What Chekkaa said. Plus, by doing all of those things, you'll have the added benefits of extra FPS and being able to use Texture packs and lots of mods without lagging too much.

Things to try:
  • Reinstall Java
  • Install Java 1.6 instead of 1.7
  • Install 64 bit Java instead of 32 bit (if you haven't already and you have a 64 bit OS)
  • Update your video card drivers

If this is the wrong place for minecraft please direct me to the write place but I'll ask here anywho. I keep having this problem where I would start a world and the game would crash and give me an error screen and it won't let me play. I uninstalled and reinstalled minecraft. The last solution I can think of is to do the same with java. Here's the error:
