put yourself in the following situation: you are a father and you have a three year old son or daughter. he/she is into shit like Sonic The Hedgehog and Yugioh. eventually, your child gets the phrase "Preps are bad" locked into his or her head. for each gender, what would you do to make your kid more socially accepted?

I would keep him/her off the internet until they're in middle school, and even then, I'd keep them away from shit like Youtube and Reddit.

I'd show them movies where the protagonist is a cool dude and is able to adapt to social situations. James Bond movies at first, but then... well I don't really know what from there on haah

I'd force them to play a sport because actual decent people play sports.

There is no such word as autist hence why spell check prompts me. You are using autist in the form of artist, but it doesn't work like that, the word is autistic. English teacher rant done.

That's why this thread originally confused me.

Not to mention the fact that you can't "fix" someone who's autistic. Aside from that a child who is autistic will never be socially accepted the same way as your average person. Its great to let autistic kids play games it helps their coordination and its always great to see someone with a mental disability have fun ^.^

This is bad parenting at it's finest. There is nothing wrong with liking Sonic or Yugioh, these are shows meant for kids. Hell I'm a 20 year old and I love Sonic.

Yeah, I'd have to agree here, too. My main issue with that is if you're so against Sonic and Yugioh and other things deemed 'nerdy'... why are you on a gaming forum to begin with? Loungin and Lobby are general forums, yeah, but Neoseeker is primarily a gaming site.
I agree with the both of you, horrible thread. If you have a problem with "nerds" or other social groups that aren't necessarily considered cool then I believe he is definitely on the wrong site. And theres nothing wrong with being "nerdy" I had a lot of friends in other social groups in high school and I am a huge nerd, no quote marks needed that time lol.

Just going off of the OP guys...

Might want to be more politically correct, Watain - it's "socially awkward", which I think you were going for. I know I know, *bleep* political correctness 420, but when you consider that you had 3 pages worth of people going apeshit on you plus 2 pages of people basically proving you wrong, plus you admitting you don't have a clue as to what the *bleep* you're talking about when it comes to actual autism, yeah, maybe you should be more politically correct! Oh, and reword the hell out of your post for when you post it here.

You could've avoided a lot of shit in Loungin if you did that!

I hope I cleared most of it all up for you guys, especially if you posted in/looked at the Loungin thread and thought he was talking about actual autistics when he was just talking about socially awkward *bleep*s. Plus it saves you guys from reading yet another post that states that actual autism can't be fixed - only pushed aside at best.

Anyway, I think you guys also missed the point of the whole sports thing. What he means is that.. well, don't you want your kids involved in clubs and shit? Loads of opportunities for social interaction there outside of school. That's probably what he meant. If you don't like being social, well... welcome to the club 420, we have jackets.

And what does "prep" mean ? In the Uk it isnt a term i hear very often.

*Very confused*
Let me unconfuse you. Here in the states, high school kids like to label each other with terms like: skaters, goths, nerds, cowboys, preps, etc. A "prep" would be someone who is always dressed nicely and clean cut, always follows the rules, etc. The best celebrity reference I can make is Olivia Newton John in Grease. Usually by the time you're out of high school, you stop using labels like that and people are just people...
Ah, gotcha.

Our school social system was actually very similair, we just called "preps" Trendies. I now realise i have heard this many a time in movies and such. Cheers for the explenation.

Yes, and then the "preps", become the popular people in life and dress very skateboarderish clothing and tend to act like big shots, it's a true reality shocker to people.

The OP seems to be confusing autism with ADD/ADHD when they are yes, similar disabilities, but the one he is describing is more of an ADHD-based, or maybe he might be referring to Asperger's Syndrome? I really don't know much about Asperger's.

Well, OP seems to have no idea about what autism is, and thinks that playing sports and watching James Bond will make you less socially awkward.
Also, apparently, if you go on Youtube or Reddit instead of playing sports, you aren't a decent person.

... Yup, I still have absolutely no clue what the hell the OP is talking about.

What is this thread actually about in plain English ?

It is more of accepting it and dealing with it, you have to help them and make them realize what they are doing, though at times they cannot control what they are doing due to certain urges, one can only hope they will listen and pay attention to what other's are saying and doing.
