Achiel: An angel who seeks to annihilate humankind. Youriel: An angel who sympathizes with the humans. She came from the future with Achiel.
Dixon: The leader of the powerful and famed mercenary group Arten Schwart. Due to his reputation he is called on by Valcaneer's officer, and has utmost trust from his mercenaries.
Bower: As Dixon's right-hand man he supports the Arten Schwart group. He has a big heart.
Sydney: A woman who is in charge of Crevaniel's base. Very sincere and serious and never lets anything slip.
Maggy: A clever scientist who supports Crevaniel with her technological developments.
Mell: A girl who runs an the accessory shop at Crevaniel's base.
Alicia: Princess of Marculey, who wants peace and to unify the four nations in the continent.
Baker: Marculey's general, who is deeply trusted by Alicia. Charged with defending the nation of Marculey.
Deringer: President of Dulkheim, who has a lust for power. He will try to use various schemes to capture the public's heart.
Rudvich: Dulkheim army officer, generally in charge of Reinfaltz base. He is hailed as hero by the citizens.
Roomise Rihtman Leading person of the magic research in Dulkheim. It is said that if it were without him, the utilization of magic stones would have been ten years later.
Kergil: A strange man living in dark side of Dulkheim, performing dirty work for Deringer.
King of Valcaneer: He is devoted to the prosperity of his country and seeks to conquer the neighboring countries.
Simons: Valcaneer's commissioned officer, who is very devoted and not above using foul tactics to rise in rank.
Leader of the Death Wings: The fearsome Death Wings mercenary group's leader. He is always wearing a skull mask.
Alphonce Ordineil: Valcaneer Royal Guard member and Lord of Ordineil. Holds a strong sense of justice and constantly considers the citizens' well-being.
Crestfer Ordineil: Alphonce's twin brother. He enjoys flirting with women and constantly wanders around past the country's borders.
Cynthia: Unlike her twin sister Meleene, she is serious, calm, and has common sense.
Pamela: A gentle elder sister type and member of the mercenary group.

Not really, the new characters from psp are already stated as new feature of the port and the already optional characters (Well only one ) join the party temprarily early in the game so you know its playable.

I do like the minor spoiler label just in case. Some people don't like knowing that kind of information. I don't mind so much.
Yeah, it's better to be on the safe side and I'd hate to wreck anyone's experience. I got most of the info in this thread from Growlanser Realm but I omitted a few details that I thought were a bit too much info. Basically everything in the OP should be apparent as soon as you encounter the characters in the game.
