I've recently RMA'd my Seagate sata 2 7200.12 HDD and i think the replacement i got is somehow defective. Here is my benchmark for the HDD and the reading rate is abnormal coz other benchmarks that i saw isn't that " zigzaggy "
Does the HDD have a problem ? Do i need to return it and ask for another or can i fix it ?

here are some of the other 500GB seagate benchmarks

If you look into your task manager and have it showing processes for all users, do you have anything spiking your CPU usage?

And sometimes when using the PC and doing something that will require heavy HDD use, like opening HD movies, opening big files, the PC freezes for a few seconds and resume.

i cant see a pattern that would indicate failure, even though the data rate is fluctuating wildly. the access times seem to be consistent, though, so i cant really tel what the problem is.

I made sure that there's nothing accessing the HDD coz i thought it will affect the results. And, everytime i run the bench i get the same " zigzaggy " results.

It shouldn't be dropping down that much in normal use, but if something is accessing the disk a lot at the same time it can cause that kind of result. Was this just after a reboot or reinstall of Windows?

If it was, try running it again after the system has been running and idle for a while, or in safe mode to try and rule out other running processes.
