Dual System = Support attacks/defend ala Super Robot Taisen. Adjacent units join in combat to block attacks or add
Double System = Revamp of the Rescue system where characters can join with other units to prevent them from being exposed to harm. In combat, both units will fight as though they are in the "dual system".

When I saw the word "skirmish" my mind went to FE8 and thought about the returning map and so when I read this thread, I was thinking he was talking about something else entirely (like a whole another army joining said "skirmish").
I've also heard the the Dual system is actually based on supports, as well.

Such a misleading subject. :< The Dual System is similiar to supports in SRT where nearby allies on the map can join in combat. It has nothing to do with Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Dual system is a new element made for Fire Emblem: Awakening where nearby allies join you in a skirmish acting as extra support. According to a retail leak, Fire Emblem: Awakening will also support StreetPass for My Unit (the custom hero you create that’s tied to the story) exchanging and side-story maps.
Sounds good to me. Also discusses a bonding system.
