RS Updates The latest news, along with all your views
As explained here, this is the new home for RS updates. While some of the more major updates will continue to have their own thread for discussion, all small updates can be discussed in this thread.
Despite some updates getting their own thread however, we would like ALL Runescape Updates to be quoted in this thread. As this has taken the place of the previous News thread, we appreciate one person quoting from Runescape.com, and someone will update the list below when they come online.

Mod Sabre’s New Year’s Eve Challenge
Mod Sabre just loves New Year’s Eve. In fact, he’s not stopped telling us how much he loves it for about a month now. So, we’ve set him a challenge to put his love of New Year celebrations to the test - to see in the New Year in each and every time zone around the world.
To our surprise, he accepted, and so for all of our entertainment, Mod Sabre will attempt to celebrate New Year’s Eve 39 times in just 24hrs.
It’s a tall order to put it mildly and so we demand proof! That’s why to succeed Mod Sabre must be logged into RuneScape every time a clock strikes midnight throughout the world.
If you’d like to witness a grown man cry, then you can find more details and track his progress on our Facebook page, on Twitter (#RS24) and on our forums. And if you want to keep him company, see in your New Year with him or just point and laugh, you can join him on a RuneScape world near you.
2011 has been one of the most important years in for RuneScape, and we’ve taken giant leaps forward this year and invested more than ever before in our history. We’ve covered everything from infrastructure and technology through to development talent, near doubling the RuneScape Content Team alone in order to significantly improve this great game for many years to come.
Most of the tangible benefits will start to come through over the course of 2012, so it is truly a great year for everyone to look forward to. The game has seen the return of the Wilderness and Free Trade; huge updates such as Clan Support and Citadels; and some of the longest running story arcs culminating in the Ritual of the Mahjarrat quest.
Looking ahead to 2012, the team have some fantastic updates planned and it’s promising to be a great year indeed!
The picture that really caught our eye this month was the really inspired ‘Festive Gingerbread Spirit Shields’ by Peterm0. It didn’t just catch our eye, it also made us really hungry! Some concept art and Jagex goodies will be on their way to you really soon. Nice work!
For next month’s gallery, it will be a new year, so the theme for this month is ‘New Beginnings’. Send us something new, something different.....surprise us!
The closing date for submitting your artwork is Monday 23rd January 2012, and as always, winners will receive some gorgeous signed concept art and bag of Jagex goodies. Send all of your seasonal submissions to email@example.com If you love art as much as you love RuneScape, why not check out our deviantArt Group for inspiration, and to chat to the community there.
Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome on our dedicated feedback thread, The Players' Gallery. 2012 is just around the corner, and we really want to spice up the Gallery a little bit - perhaps get some different types of art in there, such as models, sculptures, baking art (RS cookies and cakes!) and comic strips, just to name a few, so we can feature as many of you talented people as possible.
So - what themes would you like to see in the Gallery for 2012? Any ideas? Let us know on the thread, and we’ll see what we can do.

With winter well and truly on its way, we’ve put together a list of steps to help you enjoy this festive season knowing that your account and hard-earned items are safe and sound.
Here are some top tips on how to make sure you’re not locked out in the cold this winter. Register your e-mail account to your RuneScape account
If you forget your password you’re only an email away from getting back into game If that wasn’t reason enough, you get extra bank space too! Log into your account on www.runescape.com at the top-right corner of the main page, select "Account" and then "Account Settings" from the drop down menu for information on how to register. Keep your password safe
Never tell your password to anyone including friends! A Jagex Mod will never ever ask you for your password, so don’t listen to anyone who does – even if they claim to work for us.
Use a unique password that’s impossible to guess.
Your password for RuneScape should be unique and not used anywhere else on the internet. Stay away from the obvious to make it impossible to guess!
Install and update anti-virus software
Install, regularly update anti-virus and anti-malware software on your computer, and run regular scans. Be aware of phishing scams
Phishing email scams can be used to hijack your account, so be sure to verify all links before you click them. If you’re ever in doubt, then get out of there! Click here to learn how to spot a phishing email or site. Use a bank PIN
If someone does manage to guess your password and access your account, limit the damage by having a bank PIN that only you know. Setting up a bank PIN is quick and easy – click here for instructions.
Always log out
Make sure when you are finished with your session and want to log out, that you use our official log out buttons located at the top right of the screen. If you log in via Facebook, make sure you log out of your Facebook account before you leave!
To learn more about keeping your account secure, visit the Account Security section of the RuneScape wiki.

Christmas 2011: A Towering Feast
While there are some wizards who wish it could be Christmas every day, Sedridor isn’t one of them. He’s been tasked with organising this year’s Wizards’ Christmas Banquet: an annual gathering of RuneScape magic-users usually hosted by the Magic Guild.
Not to be outdone, Sedridor and the tower wizards have an ambitious plan to create an extra-dimensional tower dedicated solely to seasonal cheer. It’s been an administrative nightmare, though: the imps, conjured to act as waiters, are missing; animated decorations are running amok; and the eccentric goblin and troll chef duo are taking a scarily explosive approach to Christmas catering.
Lend a helping hand to decorate the tower, organise the staff and whip up a feast to challenge even the most rotund of robed bellies. As well as a chance to meet plenty of old friends from the wizarding world, there’s also a new emote to be unlocked, a wand to spread festive goodwill to other players, and a tinsel snake pet for members. You’ll also unlock a minigame, only available over the Christmas period, where you can pit parties of battle-ready snowmen against each-other in stone-cold thaumaturgical throw-downs!
To start A Towering Feast:
Speak to Wizard Sinterklaas, outside of the Wizards’ Tower, south of Draynor Village.
There are no level requirements, and the event may be completed by both members and free players.
Members will receive a tinsel snake pet, in addition to the other rewards.
In Other News...
It seems that some of the frosty creations from the Wizards’ Christmas Banquet have escaped and are roaming through the world of Gielinor. Lend the wizards a further helping hand by bringing these unruly creations under control! They may appear anywhere, at any time, so keep an eye out; they may also have some snowy surprises hidden on them!
Miners will notice some extra sheen on rocks containing ore. As well as being a shiny visual improvement in itself, this will make it easier to spot rocks that are ready to be mined.
Don’t forget: During the period of 25th of December to the 5th of January you’ll receive 500 bonus loyalty points for each day you log in!
Nex has had the following changes made, in line with player feedback:
Nex no longer attacks while performing a "siphon" attack.
The landslide loses its "climb down" option after you have descended.
The spirit cape's message about cheaper Summoning specials has been added to the spam filter.
The click area on Nex has been doubled.

Check out Mod Timbo’s Christmas Battlefield!
As the season of good will approaches, it would appear that no one has told Mod Timbo.
Winter is set to hit Clan Battlefields and, to celebrate, Timbo has created a seasonal battlefield sure to test even the inquisitive of present hunters. Don’t worry, though; he’s not a complete scrooge. He’s left presents for those victorious warriors prepared to fight for them. What a guy.
Timbo’s winter thunderland won’t be there for long so tool up, put on your best fighting trousers and get to your nearest citadel before it melts away!
If Timbo has inspired you to create your own festive fight-a-thon, show us what you’ve made by sending your screenshots to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Festive Photos and Christmas Captions
Phone cameras at this time of year are invaluable. Whether full of incriminating photos from the office Christmas party or loaded with kittens in Santa hats, keeping a phone camera to hand can really pay off. And this year, that’s never been more true!
Take part in our festive photo competition and you could bag yourself £30 of Jagex Store credit. You don’t need to be the best photographer in the world or have a camera with a million megapixels to enter, either; just send us a suitably festive photo before January 3rd to be in with a chance of winning. You can find full details on the competition thread along with a couple of examples taken with my own fair camera.
What’s that? You want another chance to win £30 of Jagex store credit? Well, seeing as it’s now only a week to Christmas, OK then...
What are Mod Markg and Mod Zach on about in this picture? Tell us what’s on their minds in this special festive edition of the ever popular Caption Competition and £30 of Jagex Store credit could be yours! Full details are waiting for you over on the caption competition thread.
Downloadable RuneScape Christmas cards have become something of a festive tradition. This year’s card comes from one of RuneScape’s most famous characters and is the purrfect way to celebrate this chilly time of year.
Bob the Cat can be hard to find in RuneScape but give someone this year’s card and they’ll not only be guaranteed to have him in their own home, they’ll also be able to sit him on a shelf or hang him from their Christmas tree! Lucky recipients only need cut him out and follow the simple origami instructions to bring Bob to life.
As if that weren’t enough, send us a photo of your Bob the Cat and, if you’re lucky, Santa Claws might visit you with £30 credit from the Jagex Store.
Download Bob’s card in the downloads section of the website and for origami help, competition details and terrible festive cat puns, check out the forum thread.
