In order to lower the amount of threads asking for recommendations, bbb and I have decided to start this general thread for people who are unsure about what games are worth buying, similar to the one in the General Wii forum.
Just some advice; When you post tell us what kind of games you're looking for, be it action, RPG, platformer or something for your 8-year old son. Also be sure to tell us what popular games of those genres you (or the person you're buying for) already own/enjoy, as it would make recommendations a lot easy.

wildfire I think you'd really enjoy KI:U It's a fun faster-paced actiony game that you can invest a lot of time into once you really enjoy it. If you're still skeptical try looking up some gameplay videos to know what you're getting into

Get Fire Emblem Awakening. Fire emblem is by far my favorite video game series of all time. I've been playing it since I was a little kid.
Also, what are some good lesser-known 3DS games to get? Basically any non first-party or big name third-party games that are worth a purchase.
This is probably coming from a bias source, but Monster Hunter 3 U (Capcom) for the 3DS is a game you should look into. You can buy a hard or digital copy for 40 bucks. There's a Wii U version of the game too, and that one has co-op, online hunts, whereas the 3DS only supports local play*. If it's any indication of how good the game is, I've logged 200+ hours of gameplay and I'm not done with it yet... Not even half way. There's 51 boss monsters and 3 difficulty tiers in game. The main objective is to slay the fell beasts and craft equipment from their materials you receive. There's a tons of weapon classes to choose from, and tbh, I don't really have time to explain them all. Monster Hunter doesn't have much of a story, though, so if you're looking for a game that will tell you one then Monster Hunter isn't for you. That said what dialogue there is, is still funny.
There is a demo for the game available on the e-shop, but the demo doesn't really reflect the game that much. For starters, the monster you fight there aren't unlocked until later in the actual game. It's a shame really.
*3DS can get online, but the method is convoluted and you need a Wii U anyway. Team Hydro Aura
I was wondering if I should get KI : uprising? I would like to play it, but the e-shop doesn't carry a demo, so I don't know if it's worth the money. ... I'm also gonna try out FE at some point.

Many people are looking forward to Pokemon X and Y. Fortunately, this Pokemon generation has all Gen 1-6 Pokemon. Pokemon Black and White anime is too short, should've been long.

I bought a 3DS this weekend, along with Animal Crossing: New Leaf and White 2. I'm a bit caught up on what to get next... toss-up between Donkey Kong 3D, Mario Kart 7, Paper Mario 3D, Kingdom Hearts 3D, and Kid Icarus. Probably only going to be able to get one, maybe two for now.

Dunno if anybody else has been anticipating it, but Denpa Men 2 gets released on the 30th of this month. It's a much fleshier RPG than the first, and has some online functionality too. Should be good.
when mario dream team comes do you think it'll be good
Fo' sure. Though in my opinion the Mario & Luigi RPG series has been on very steady decline since the amazing first game. It'll be good, but I'm not sure how good.
