Hello and welcome to the Pokemon Soul Silver Spriting Competition! Once situated in the Pokemon Pearl Forum, this Competition has been running since July 2008, and continues to be one of Neoseeker's many fine spriting competitions! Here, spriters are invited to submit sprites based on certain qualifications set by the judges. After a week has passed since the theme was set, the judges will score and critique the entries, offering helpful advice and awarding points to the top-scoring sprites. Above all else, the Soul Silver Sprite Competition is a place for spriters and Pokemon enthusiasts to gather and have a fun, friendly competition, all while improving their spriting skills!

There are three people who currently oversee the judging and overall maintenance of this competition. These people have been chosen because of not only their exceptional spriting ability, but also their leadership in the community. The three judges are as follows:

In order to ensure things run smoothly, a few rules need to be set and followed. They're nothing major, they just help to make things fair for everyone and make sure things don't get crazy. It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with these rules, just to make sure you don't end up getting disqualified! Anyone found breaking the rules will either be disqualified from the current round, or (if the infraction is a serious offense), they may be banned from entering future rounds. The judges have the final say on how to deal with anyone breaking the rules. If you feel that someone has broken a rule (especially the one regarding stolen sprites), please PM the judges as soon as possible!

      1. You may only enter one sprite per round.
Falkner isn't a fan of double and triple battles, so please only enter one sprite per round. You may not edit your entry once you post it, so make sure you're 100% happy with it before you submit it! You are, however, allowed to edit the text and coding of the post which includes your sprite, you just can't change the sprite itself. Make sure you do it right the first time, or else you risk a low grade!

      2. Sprites should be saved and posted in the .PNG format.
This is to ensure the best quality. Bugsy knows that in order to do well in competitions, you need to enter with the best quality possible, be it Bug Catching Contests or Spriting Contests. If you save in another format (especially .JPEG), the quality of the sprite may be jeopardized, and that will negatively affect your score. The only other file format that you should ever consider using is .GIF, for animated sprites. Remember, you always want to enter with your best!

      3. Above all else, have fun!
Don't be a sore loser like Whitney. Don't cry if you don't get a grade as high as you would like, because the judges are giving you helpful advice to improve your skills, so everyone wins! The most important thing is to have fun with spriting!

      4. C&C should be given only to those who ask for it, and it must be constructive.
C&C stands for "Comments and Criticism", and often spriters will ask for C&C when they post their sprite. If they ask for it, feel free to post in the thread any comments you might have on how the sprite looks, and offer advice on how it could be improved. The most important thing is to make sure your comments are constructive and helpful. Saying "It's ugly" or "that's weird" doesn't really help anyone, but comments like "the tail looks unattached to the body" can be very helpful. Morty's Ghost-Pokemon will put a curse on you if your comments are rude or unhelpful! If the person does not state whether or not they want C&C, it is assumed that they do not, so please don't comment on their sprite. You're always allowed to tell people that you like their sprite, though!

      5. No stealing!
Chuck will beat you up if you steal someone else's work and call it your own! Every component of your sprite must be your own creation. You can't use any part which was made from anyone else (aside from the official Pokemon sprites). Anyone found posting other peoples' work will be disqualified and face a hefty ban, as well as a good kick in the butt from Chuck!

      6. Follow the theme.
Just like each Gym Leader has their own set Type or Theme, each round does as well, and you must follow that theme when submitting your sprite. For example, Jasmine uses Steel-type Pokemon, so if the theme was to create a Steel-type Pokemon and your entry looks like a Fire-type, chances are you won't do so well! Make sure your entry fits the theme before you post it to ensure you won't get disqualified. If you're looking for a place to post any random sprites you've made, you can do so in the General Pokemon Forum Spriting Showcase

      7. All Neoseeker Forumwide Rules and Soul Silver Forum Rules apply.
It is important to be aware of the general rules of Neoseeker forums. Most of these rules are common sense and courtesy, and really aren't that difficult to follow. You have been warned though, if you don't follow these rules, Pryce may freeze your account!

      8. Respect.
Clair demands respect, both in her Gym and in this competition. Please treat everyone - judges and other spriters/commenters - with respect. It really goes a long way. Treat others the way you wish to be treated. Also, please be aware that the judges are real people, and have real lives which can sometimes interefere with their judging responsibilities - real life demands come before the demands of this competition. Hey, we're just kids! We've got school and social lives and crazy siblings that can make it difficult to get judging done on time. Just know we'll get it done as soon as we can.

Here you can find all the information about the ongoing round! Remember, if you're ever unsure of the theme, feel free to ask in the thread or message one of the judges, who will be more than happy to clarify anything you might be wondering. Judging dates are always approximate, and are subject to change based on real-life events which might interfere with judging, or a lack of entries, which will be decided upon at the judge's discretion.
    Round #: 110
    Theme: Fakemon Devamp!
    Judge: Exxmaniac
Date: Any day now since a week already past :I

After each round, judges will grade the sprites from F (disqualified) to A+ (perfect). The top three scores will earn points - 3 points for first place, 2 points for second place, and 1 point for third place. If two sprites earn the same grade, they will both earn the same number of points. The ongoing tally of points can be seen below. Spriters with animated icons and special colours indicate that they placed in the top bracket of the most recent tournament. Those with an icon of the Elite 4 and Champion of Johto represent those who placed in the top 5 of the 100 Round Celebration Mini-Tournament.

Fourthbeat, Brodeo, and Anti_righteous

Thank you for visiting the Pokemon Soul Silver Spriting Competition!
We hope you'll join in the fun! A big thank-you goes out to all the judges, past and present, who have helped run this competition over the years. Without their hard work and dedication, this competition would not be here today!

Thread Recap (last 10 posts from newest to oldest)

vast - lol, this contest is dead. It's in the slow process of moving to the bw2 forum, but neither me nor exx are available for the judging spot, so starting a new thread with new judges is taking some time.
Hopefully that info wasn't secret or something :3

well, i'm probably not qualified enough to judge.
but i'd make it my job to always enter the contest and to help draw people in.
kinda like a publicist

as for the issues with themes, maybe go back to basics.
start off with some simple fusion rounds, throw in some retypes, maybe one or two recolors. and who doesn't like a good revamp/devamp round?

i dunno. it probably doesn't matter since spriting has been in a recession for a while now...

Jul 12, 12 at 11:45am

I'm alive, don't worry.
As for the contest, I can't think of any way to revive it other than possibly relocating it. The more open rounds, and open rounds in general, don't seem to help at all. They get activity, then slowly loses participants again.

As for being a judge, I'm just not as interested in spriting or judging them, unfortunately. I just sort of lost interest. Even though I love the creations others are making, I can't seem to get back into spriting. I'd love it if this contest was revived, but I don't know about staying as a judge.

not the best userbar, but it links to the first page of this thread

{quick quote to steal code}

Jul 11, 12 at 10:56pm

I wouldnt mind at all.

But im starting to think that a relocation won't do much.
All contests have been pretty pathetic with activity lately.
If this thread does somehow revive, I'd be more than happy to help it stay alive again, but I really don't see that happening. :/

And I have no idea where exxmaniac has been lately.

Jul 11, 12 at 8:18pm

Brodeo, is there any news on this thread being relocated?
black2 and white2 were released in japan.
maybe it could go to the black2/white2 thread instead of only putting it under one of the games.

if nothing new has developed, i'd like to try to revive the thread from right here, would i be allowed to advertise in my signature? i'm going to go check the rules to find out.

the rules say i cannot advertise other websites,
but i would be glad to advertise this thread.
i'm going to make a userbar and i'll plop it in my sig if Exxmaniac and Brodeo wouldn't mind remaining judges if activity picks up

Bump. I'll come up with an entry soon.

May 10, 12 at 2:04pm

I'm sorry I didn't enter this ages ago, I haven't been spriting in a while. Here's my entry:

I was thinking of bezoars from Harry Potter, which can cure most poisons, and how they're found in goats' stomachs, and thus made this. I'm upset that I managed to scratch the head and tail but then just fused them onto Stantler's body, but I couldn't scratch that kind of body. .-.

Hopefully this'll get some other entries coming in. ^^

    Edit - Oh yeah, it's a normal/poison type.

May 7, 12 at 8:32pm

In the mean time, should the round be changed, or should I kidnap people and force sprites out of them keep it the way it is?
