Say someone posts a forum message at the end of one month. If someone else posts a reply back right at the start of the next month, is it a bump?

Stop bumping threads from pages back! This was made in 05!
It was okay for him to bump the thread because he was answering the question, or in other words, adding to it.
This was definitely not an okay bump. Your post contributes nothing relevant to the thread. However, the others should have reported the post and moved on, rather than escalating the situation by calling you out on it. It's ironic that you didn't practice what you're preaching here.

The other bumps can be viewed as acceptable, perhaps depending on who's moderating.

In any case, Kimonio, you shouldn't be attempting to reprimand anyone for any reason, because it is not your job to do so. In future, if you think the post is violating a rule, please report it and let the moderator deal with it. The same goes for anyone else.

Edit: Kimonio, you're also missing an important point: threads are not just for the original poster. The content within them can benefit anyone in the world, at any time. That's why I personally allow bumps of threads as long as the post is directly relevant and helpful enough to warrant it.

Since when did you tell me that?

That's the thing, though. You don't know if they even play the game still, or if they even got past that part. You just have to compare the time and judge it. Trust me, if you left the site for a year, you'd forget it. Trust me, I left due to school, and barely remembered my log-in. That said, you have to just compare the day they posted to the time they last logged in, then try and assume.

Aurora I believe the posts in question are:

http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/directmessage.php?m=32115314 -Bump to help the user with his problem, when the user could just stick the cartridge in the Nintendo DS.

http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/directmessage.php?m=31991449 -Bumped to say the person who bumped it was okay to bump. A bumperbump.

http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/directmessage.php?m=31364192 -Six year bump, not told off by me this time.

castlewars, provide a link to the post(s) in question, and then we can help further. Until you do so, I'm not convinced that your bump was indeed "legit."

If you're unwilling to do this, then I will simply close this thread. As it stands, you're using it unproductively and wasting our time. Posts which say "X is happening to me wrongly" are useless in here. On the other hand, posts like "X happened, but I'm not sure if my bump was okay. Can you take a look? <link>" ARE useful because it would allow us to get to the bottom of this apparent bumping issue of yours.

Kimonio, you told me off about three times for bumping in the Pokemon Emerald forum, and they were legit bumps. Why was that?
It depends on exactly what you are bumping that depends on how I tell you off.

Bad bump=Bumping a game question from years ago, or fueling an argument that ended long before you ever posted.
Good bump=Adding onto a critical thinking discussion or reviewing certain aspects of the discussion.

Examples:

quote Bad
User 1(December 2003)Guys, I can't get passed _______. My stats are _,_,_,_ and _. Anyone know?
User 2(December 2003)Have you tried _______?
User 1(December 2003)Yes, but it doesn't seem to affect him at all.
User 3(October 2011) You need to hit him in the _____, then use a power move to blast away 40% of his HP, then etc etc etc
The topic was started in 2003, but User 3 bumped it to 2011. That's bad, because if you looked at User 1's profile, chances are they never logged on for a long time. That, or they're a guests, and guests usually never return for their answers.

quote Good
User 1(December 2003)So guys, I beat the game, and the final cutscene just didn't appeal much. :\ What do you think could have been changed?
User 2(December 2003) They should have added _____ and another battle.
User 3(December 2003) If they had removed ____ and replaces him/her with _____, it would have made more sense and wouldn't have left us confused.
User 4(July 2005) They should have made ____ use his Final Slash move at the end. Would have been epic.
User 5(August 2010)The music was way off. They should have swapped it with the title music.
As you can see, both User 4 and 4 made good bumps by adding onto the discussion. Since it wasn't an old game question, it was an okay bump.

The reasons I probably told you off three times was because you had bumped game questions from the past. The user wouldn't log on, and even if you're helping, you pretty much aren't helping anyone but yourself by posting. That said, look at the date in the top-right of a post before you reply.

Questions to ask yourself before you reply to a game question:
Is it recent, or from weeks ago?
Was it a guest or a user?
When did the user last log on?
Do you think they even care anymore?

That's how I see bumping as fit. If it's related to the bad bump section, I'll usually tell the user it shouldn't have been bumped. If it's a good bump, I'll probably just add onto the discussion myself too.

Also, what Justin said is somewhat true. Making hundreds of suggestions over small things in the site isn't really needed, as they are small and petty things. Reporting a buttload of old posts in a game forum doesn't help the forum mod at all either. It just makes them have to deal with old crap from the past, and usually irritates them.
I've told you this several times - telling me off for legit bumping is in fact trolling and you never know when they've moved on or not. If they do log in, they'd pick up your notification and say thanks. You shouldn't bump only is the account had been suspended.

Castlewars, devoting time to specifically find errors in the forums may honestly be your problem. Moderators appreciate it more than they can say when actual, real offenses are reported, but reporting everything because they aren't perfectly parallel with the rules is silly, especially when they're such minor offenses. Just use common sense with the forums. If you run into an offensive post or thread, report it, but shifting through posts in the pure intent of finding a double post or something is a little farfetched.

Kimonio is right. Also, Loungin has such a high amount of ppd (posts-per-day) that it's unreasonable to ask the mods to pick up on every little tiny offense or vaguely troll-like comment all of the time. They've got bigger concerns. Plus, as we've all mentioned before, different mods have a different view of what is and what isn't appropriate.

If you're going to post in loungin' you just need to kick back your heels and learn to roll with the punches, not get annoyed at someone calling you "lame" or anything.
