I've been sending PMs all this time now. Some haven't been replied to. So what I wanted is you need to wait for them to go online before you send a PM that normally requires a reply. Will it go ahead?

The popup idea isn't a bad one as long as we can toggle it, otherwise I'd feel bombarded sometimes!
I don't support the OP's suggestion though personally, as read receipts and checking if they're online should handle it I think. Also, if what's being suggested is that the PM is stored and then sent when someone comes online, there will be no net difference because they'll still be receiving as many PMs and yours will still be as far down the queue as it would be normally. If that wasn't the suggestion, and it actually was to not be able to send a PM at all until the other user is online, well i couldn't be more against that.

Not to connect it too much, but something like Facebook does with status comments or updates would be awesome. An option to turn it off would be welcome though.

The popup pm idea sounds like that from what invisionfree has/have(haven't been there in a while). It would come in handy for sure. Just may get annoying when you get a ton of messages a day so if we can turn it off too, that would be swell.
Probably a better system would be one where you can enable "popups" of PMs or IM like messages so that if you wanted to you'd know right away when someone sends you a message.
Hey that actually sounds pretty cool Red and something I'd keep enabled.
Would you be able to illustrate a proof of concept of how this might look and behave (perhaps in another thread)? I get the idea but can't imagine how it might work or the actual effect on the user experience.
How about putting an icon in one of these 2 spots?
Have the icon as something like a book or envelope opened when the PM has been read and then a book or enveloped unopened when it hasn't been read?
What sort of icon are you talking about? Is it to do with the proposed upgrade system?

It goes to the person even if they're offline, and they recieve the message when they come online.
I don't support, because what if you want to PM someone who isn't online when you only have a limited amount of time to use your computer? I personally think it's a good thing that you can PM someone whenever you want to, and it also makes it easier for the other person to reply back without having to wait for you to get back online. If you just want to know whether the person got your PM or not though, then you could just check the "Get a receipt when recipient reads message" box before sending the PM.
I think I should agree with you. I once sent a PM to Kirby_net and she didn't pick up, but it was worthwhile.
Just because this idea fits in with a "NeoPM system upgrade", how about integrating Read Receipts within the conversation view? I think it would be better than read receipts because it wouldn't take up another PM slot and you could easily tell when each participant has read the updated convo. In terms of not getting notified, I'm not really sure what to do about that Maybe put a notification for it instead because I think that is all we really care about when we tick the box for a read receipt.
