I'd say there are potentially five or six really consistent builds in this game. I could be wrong.
I tend to lean toward an all-out defensive build with a lot of regen-oriented badges, since offense can be produced in a number of other ways it won't take a very big hit from the "setbacks" of using defensive badges ad infinium. You could triple dip 3 shooting stars or whatever items you fancy for at least around 21 damage per turn, or you could just rely on anything that guarantees a set amount of damage.
