Yeah I prefer eight racers over the twelve in MK Wii. I was satisfied to see they went back to eight.

I've only ever played with eight racers, but I think it's definitely the optimal amount. Twelve racers with all the items and extra positions seems like it wouldn't really add anything positive to the mix.
And I quite like just having four racers online.

After playing a demo of this game today, I notice that things aren't as chaotic as MarioKart Wii, so I don't think it would have made a difference in races, if this game kept the amount of racers to 12. Still, 8 players in this game continues to be extremely fun like past Mario games.

I'm glad it's back to just 8 players. 12 was a bit too much.

I feel like a fool for just finding this out.
Anyway, this decision doesn't really affect me. I enjoy 8 player and 12 player races equally.
In MarioKart Wii, I enjoy the chaos online when playing with a full 12 players. Actually I'm playing now. XD
Hopefully MarioKart 3DS will keep me as excited. =)

Glad it's back to 8 player races. I don't think 12 was bad, but it just seemed like an unnecessary change imo.
castlewars long, wide courses are fine. Most of the "raceway" courses and Rainbow Road courses are long and/or wide.
