It will be best if we all post new information in the same thread to keep everything organized.
The Super Smash Bros. 4 project is being overseen by Masahiro Sakurai (HAL). The game features the option to play crossplatform with the SSB in development for Wii U.
>>> Development on the game will begin once Kid Icarus is finished, with the Super Smash Bros. Brawl game engine being used as a starting platform. Additionally, Sakurai would like to place an emphasis on character development for the 3DS version. Players could train their character through battle/rewards while playing on 3DS, then transfer their data to Wii U to battle others. Ideally, this would create a more personal experience since players would be able to carry their 3DS with them.

Since the 3ds is smaller than the U, how will it have the exact same characters and memory? And will it have customizeable characters?
Send Link, how have you not heard of SSB4? I was hoping they were going to make one, and there is a smash bros, and a mariokart for each of the nintendo systems, as far as I know. Like the NINTENDO 64, GAMECUBE, WII, why not the WII U, or the 3DS? Well, hopefully it's not going to be ruined by the creators...

Yes, they already announced that the Wii U and 3DS version will be cross compatible, meaning 3DS owners can play against Wii U owners.
Don't mean to burst your bubble but Sakurai only said that they would interact in some way. He never said that they would be cross compatible for wifi.
Yeah, I heard the same thing. I'm getting really excited for E3 this year, from what we're hearing, it sounds like it's gonna be great.

^Yeah that's been known for about a month already. A trailer will debut. This will definitely be the highlight of Nintendo's E3 without a doubt. Can't wait.
