Memory systems are really cool but they require so much memorisation themselves! D:

I don't know why people bother eating shrimp, they're so small. Prawns are fantastic though.

Good luck Chelsk, I struggled to get up at 9 today.

Ok, cool. I'll be there. My mum knows I'll be drinking that early because I told her I was getting up to watch the Europa League final, and coverage starts at 4:30am.
That's just a typical Aussy morning then. Wake up at 4:30am, slam on some European sport, crack open a Foster's and wang a few shrimps on the barbie.
Haha, yep, that's par for the course. Though I'll probably have left over pizza instead of shrimp (though, we don't even call it shrimp, we call them prawns).

Anyway, it's 6:27pm so I'm going to finish watching this episode of The Shield then I'm going to get me some rest so I can wake up fresh at 4:30am.

I think so, although I'm only confident on Toni and I being there. I have a feeling Ron, Mitch, and Tom will all be no shows, and you'll sleep in

I sometimes use "the peg system" (Derren Brown again) to remember numbers:
0- Z or S
1- L
2- N
3- M
4- R
5- F or V
6- B or P
7- T
8- Ch or Sh or J
9- G

I haven't used it extensively so I can't say how effective it is.

Yeah I know of that technique, it's good for memorising up to 100s of numbers but the Dominic System is good for memorising up into the 1000s. It's not necessary to learn that many but if you're going to learn something you might as well go for the most effective way.

My current number system isn't too different.

0 - D
1 - L
2 - R
3 - M
4 - A
5 - S
6 - C
7 - T
8 - B
9 - P

Well the less people that use it the more advantageous it'll be for those of us that do (or want to) use it. It can be transferred over to other areas like remembering speeches, stories, and facts. As well as what you mentioned, but in abundance. Over time it improves your memory and brings a stronger connection between your right and left brain hemispheres and is said to improve fluid intelligence (your ability to learn, understand, reason, and problem solve).

The guy that won the World Memory Championships 8 times and now is on its council, didn't achieve anything during his school years. His teachers had little faith in him and didn't expect him to amount to anything, and he wouldn't have if it wasn't for an obsession to figure out how to emulate a card memorising trick he'd seen on TV.

Right now I'm really stuck on the letter coding, replacing pairs of digits from 00 to 99 with a letter designated to each number, and creating familiar people from the initials or reminders. After that you have to think up an action they're doing or a prop they might have just to clearly distinguish them from the rest. Then you have to memorise that list just so that you can remember a crazy sequence of numbers. He admits that building your strategy takes great commitment and this stage is probably the hardest. I've spent hours messing with letters to see which will yield the greatest number of names. Currently only have 27 on my latest list of 100!

That's exactly the method I read about. It's also called a Mind Palace. It's cool but I don't see much use for it besides remembering random lists since my memory's probably above average standard anyway. I can remember my friend's student number which he told me once a few weeks ago, loads of birthdays and also phone numbers of people I haven't spoken to in years.
