July 1 Start date

Just wanted to get discussion started for this years contest and also to give people time to prepare.

Planning to start this in July and run it's course for the month as last year.

Prizes- Well currently no sponsors, maybe we can change that. If you would like to donate a prize, please let me know and we can note it on the list and credit you for the donation. If we can get enough prizes, I'd like to see at least 3 go to top scores or top of each class if we have tiered contests and include some random prizes for competing as well.

I've been going through the feedback of the old thread and seems there were some good suggestions. Do we want to continue in spirit of overclocking percentage? Do we want to have paired teams?

2010 contest feedback

So please detail your suggestions and also please suggest benchmarks you'd like to see included as well.

Would like to have benchmarks, rules ... etc ironed out by June 1.
Current Benchmarks 2011:

Judges <coming soon> (judges can still compete)
Player 1

Cops <coming soon> (cops can still compete)

Rules <coming soon>
1. Must be a member of the forum before start of contest.

Depends what you're after...

I've got a CPU pot (That's seen very little action due to difficulty purchasing dry ice where I lived), but now that I live next to a store that sells dry ice I figured I'd actually start using it. I was contemplating pairing it with a GPU pot, but haven't been able to convince myself that they are actually worth it. (Partly because of what you just stated, and partly because I've never really cared all that much about GPU overclocking) I figured since you just used one you'd be able to tell me whether or not you thought they were worth it.

I don't think I would have paid the price they ask new.
Yeah they're kinda expensive huh.

Do you think it's worth it to have a pot for the GPU though?

Personally I don't like 3D benchmarking because as soon as there is a more powerful CPU coming out, you lose all your records because people run the cards again with the newer CPU. I prefer going 2D hardware records, which you don't lose over time, except if someone beats you at it. Thus my GPU pot isn't used much. But I definitely need a better CPU pot though... I had designed this one for Core 2 considering they had a cold bug, so it has an important mass to make the temperature vary slowly and thus have a better control. But with Phenom II, which is what I only benched in the past two years, the colder it is the better.

How do you like it? Do you think the performance difference is noticeable compared to the Tek-9 FAT?
I never tried the FAT one. I bought this pot used from HITandRUN on OCC so it didn't cost me a lot. I don't think I would have paid the price they ask new.
