I just thought I'd post up some of my mishaps on my first story mode run through so you guys could avoid them. Nothing here is really spoilers here, just stupidity on my part.

As you'll quickly learn, Seals are a really important part of the game. They're basically the "Items" of DW3-DW5. You get them by killing so many officers with a certain weapon. Usually I ABHOR systems like this, but you learn the skills quick enough that its not a big deal and, more often than not, you're using the weapon you want not the weapon you need to get a seal with. Anyway, here are some mistakes I made:

1) Seals Stack Between Your Weapons. What does this mean? Say you have the seal for Attack+. I was under the impression that equipping attack plus on a weapon only raised the strength of the weapon you had out. However, if you have Attack+ on both your weapons, the effect stacks. This is really useful for abilities like Walking Speed Boost and Skill Point Boost (you'll really notice the difference).

2) Don't Feel Bad About Switching Seals Mid-Battle. At first, I thought this was cheating, but once you get into the later stage on Hard you basically have to keep switching seals. When fighting officers I tried to stack Attack+++, Defense+++, and Officer Assassin on both my weapons. Every time I was done fighting I'd swap on some Walking Speed Boost and every time I saw an archer or arbalest I made sure I had on 2 Defense+++ and 2 Projectile Resistances. Archers really like to deal the hurt in DW7.

Anyway, that's all I have for now. It seems like the bulk of the game/leveling/equipment is going to be in Conquest Mode, and I won't be playing that for a while.

Feel free to discuss your favorite Seal combos or to call me a loser for switching seals every 10 seconds

what about achievable seals? do you have to equip the seal that is achieved to use it or is it automatically used with that weapon

I just figured that out on the 360. I was wondering why is my character whistling when I meant to block? (after about 10 missions I might add) Then I realized a new icon on the map going straight for me. Lo and behold a horse! I guess everyone has one now.

If you feel obligated to use spoilers, then go ahead. Most people know what they're getting into when they go into any of these threads. I've just tried to avoid anything too specific.

In any case, I just realized you can push L2 to get a horse, so that does away with a lot of the seal switching.

I was under the impression that it was the K.O.s that allowed you to get seals. In Wu's opening battle as Sun Jian I did not switch weapons and only got a seal from his sword. (Ax was his secondary) But in the 2nd story battle I switched weapons with Sun Ce and received 2 seals, one from each weapon.

BTW, Ma Chao's entrance was GRAND! Also, Ma Dai coming in at the end was a great fight. His Musou looked like he was summoning a typhoon or cyclone! I went back and upped the difficulty to make it a more epic fight.

Also, shouldn't we put spoilers in these posts?

I'm still not certain whether or not KOs even give you points towards the Seals. I did some experimenting, but not enough to make any conclusions. In any case, you should max everything out somewhere in your second story.

And, side note, miragedres, that Wu vs. Ma Teng level is definitely awesome.

Following your advice seems to be the best way of getting through the harder modes. Switching seals becomes almost imperative if you want to survive onto the next swarm or general. (Ma Dai in the 2nd stage of Wu.) You should also note that you can equip 2 of the same type of weapon. (i.e. Sun Ce with Wooden Tonfa in Slot 1 and Old Tonfa in Slot 2) I did it to get Walking Speed and Defense+ within 600 K.O.s.

Yeah it is a pain, but it beats the alternative of not being able to switch at all. Horses ought to fix a lot of the problems because you won't need to put on speed.

Sounds like a hassle/slows gameplay, no?

However, I'd prefer it over DW3 where I made a save file to before I killed Sun Quan/item dropping officers in He Fei Castle trying to get a +20 (or whatever it was) musou fill.
