RPG - Don't play RPGs much, but I loved every RPG made by BioWare, from Baldur's Gate to Mass Effect 2, Strategy - Starcraft: Brood War. In its current form, SC2 doesn't come close. Although it's still a great game and will probably be comparable to BW by the time the second expansion hits. Shooter - Half-life + mods. Sim - Sim City 4

^ This man speaks sense.
RPG: Baldur's Gate II (Seriously my most favorite awesome coolest game ever. Never been more impressed by a game.)
Strategy: Dune
Shooter: Halflife II probably, not really a fan of shooters, but I played Halflife II and mildly liked it
Simulator: The older Sim City games.

RPG - Baldur's Gate (Both)
Strategy - Starcraft (I, BW, and II)
Shooter - Doom, Marathon, and Dark Forces.
Simulator - Probably Tie Fighter.
Looking at my list the newest game among my favorites is Starcraft II. Baldur's Gate II came out around 2000 or 2001 methinks, the first in '98. Everything else are DOS era titles. I reckon it's been a long time since anything has struck me as innovative. I like plenty of modern games; just not getting swept off my feet by much anymore.
