I have a standard wired USB Keyboard, it works with my Wii. I can type messages on the dashboard mail thing and it works with the Opera browser, but it won't work with Monster Hunter Tri. Is the game only compatible with certain keyboards? I just figured that if it works with other things on the Wii, it should work with anything/game on the Wii.

If your looking for something that works with any system I say mine works great. I currently use the Logitech k250 wireless keyboard for MH3. Ive never had any problems with it on the wii or ps3. My friend has also used it with MH Frontier on xBox and he says it worked. I bought it for $15 at Frys Electronis when it was on sale. You can get it online anywhere else for $20

Okay, somehow (don't ask me how) I got it working. I just did what I tried many times before, boot the game up with the keyboard already plugged in, and it lit up the num lock (indicator it's working) after passing the main menu. First time though it suddenly stopped working after I went to select a city gate, next boot it was fine though and worked non stop till I pulled it out. If it gets unplugged, I have to reboot the Wii to get it working again.
So it works, sort of...
UPDATE: Experimenting, I plugged a USB adapter into the back USB port on the Wii and then my keyboard into that, and now it's hot swappable meaning I can unplug and plug back in the keyboard without having the restart my Wii.
Problem solved!

It's possible the game is picky. Maybe a keyboard from a trusted brand like Logitech or a specifically made Wii Keyboard from Nintendo will fare better.

It's standard in the sense that its plug & play, I don't know what brand it is, I got it off ebay a few years ago for a tenner. If you're going to talk about other consoles aswell, the keyboard works fine on my Xbox 360 in any game or typing messages. I had the chance to test it on a ps3 at one point and used it on it's web browser and playstation home no problems.
Either something is wrong with my game or the game itself is just picky on what keyboards it accepts.

What would a standard wired USB keyboard be, exactly? Brand can have an impact on how well a device performs. I currently use a $13 Logitech USB keyboard for this PS3 browser and MHTri on the Wii. If you're using something carrying a name like MadCatz, that may be your problem.
