Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

Here's some information about the game.

  • Release date: Fall 2010
  • Official Website: http://ghostrecon.uk.ubi.com/
  • Multiplayer Beta: coming Summer 2010. Access given with purchase of Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Also here's a live action short about the game:

    Premise

"The soldier of the future is an F16 on legs," announces OPM's preview, which notes that because most of the fancy tech from the last Ghost Recon is now reality (UAVs, helmet HUDs) Ubisoft's having to push the series forward in Future Solider - and it has.

The next game takes place 10-15 years after Advanced Warfighter and has the Ghosts out to stop an ultranationalist group that's managed to depose the Russian president.

Battle locations confirmed (thusfar) are Norway and Russia.

    Features

As the game name suggest, the Ghost team are now packing futuristic gear like stealth cloaks (as seen in the Ghost Recon: Future Soldier trailer), armoured ground drones and exo-skeleton legs (to carry more gear).

The latter in particular is a game changer, as it means the Ghosts are now more agile and can jump, roll and generally throw themselves around the battlefield. It also opens the window for close quarters combat, which you'll be seeing a lot of in Future Soldier.

4-Player drop in, drop out co-op is promised and controversially, no squad commands what-so-ever.

Character classes also play a pivotal role in the new game, with players receiving specific, unique bonuses for their chosen role:
    - Recon: gets optical camo
    - Sniper: Uses a range of sensors such as audio detectors and heartbeat monitors to locate targets
    - Commando: gets shoulder mounted missile launcher that fire guided projectiles
    - Engineer: controls combat drones, using th the exoskeleton to carry extra gear and firing sound emitters to fry electronics from a distance. Useful to disable bombs.

Assault Rifles are customizable and allow you to use attachments such as:
    - Shotgun attachment
    - Grenade launcher attachment
    - Omnitool: enables you to cut/unscrew/saw, as well as melee opponents

Exoskeletons allow you to carry heavier loads while staying agile. You can now jump, dive, and roll your way around the battlefield. You can also slide, either into cover or into the enemies legs, allowing for close quarters combat moves, which allow you to take down opponents using Israeli Krav Maga and Russia Systema fighting styles.

There is a combat/UAV drone that you can control to pinpoint enemy locations and shoot them from the sky.

The stealth cloak is a suit that is covered in cameras. It films what's around you and projects it back on your suit. This turns you into a significantly less visible, blurry shape.
