1. Whenever a Pokemon is knocked out it is considered dead and must be released.*/**
2. You may ONLY catch the first Pokemon in each new route.
3. No healing items outside of battle***
4. SET battle style****

*If all of your pokemon die, it's game over
**You may choose to count poison reducing them to 1 as death
***Pokemon centers are the only healing allowed, aside from any forced healings by trainers.
****Doesn't let you switch pokemon when the opponent is switching

You can also choose to never use your box to store additional pokemon, if you want
You can choose to also let your pokemon go or store them in your box when you reach Kanto and start over.

this is a challenge I found on several other sites. Is anyone planning on using it to complete the game/recomplete the game? Since a friend (Boxxy) recently ruined my save file by giving me corrupt pokesav files for some pokemon he wanted, I plan on trying this.

Pokemon Nuzlocke in my opinion is the best pokemon game because their are all of the pokemon from Kanto to Hoen.

quote Wolverine527
A friend of mine made his own variant of a Nuzlocke before,it was basically a completionist variant. I called it a "Complocke" because of it. Basically instead of catching only the first Pokémon in each area,he had to catch EVERY new Pokémon in each area before continuing.
i tried doing something like that in platinum version. but i also included that i had to fully evolve every pokemon i caught. currently i'm only missing pokemon that you get in special events and need to be traded to evolve.

I did a Nuzlocke in Yellow once, and I managed to beat the game with 11 deaths. It was troublesome at times, but it was nice always having money to buy Lemonades and whatnot.

I've currently been doing one in Sapphire. Early on I had 4 Zigzagoons in my party at once....But it was nice having 4 Pokémon with Pickup on the team. Now I'm preparing to fight Wallace (8th gym for those that don't know),and I've had 6 deaths so far.

I'm just going with the basic rules for the most part:

1.If a Pokémon faints,it is dead and can no longer be used. (I throw the dead into a box marked "Graveyard")
2.May only catch the first Pokémon in each area. (Underwater routes counting as separate.)
3.Must nickname all Pokémon.

I added two extra rules:

4.Must battle all Legendary Pokémon. If rule 2 would prevent this,it may be broken solely for the purpose of encountering a Legendary. (The Regis require you to have a Relicanth and a Wailord to unlock the areas they're in.)
5.Trading is allowed, but only for the purposes of evolution.

I prefer to stick with the basic rules myself. Limiting the use of items or times allowed to heal at a Pokémon center seems more like you're asking for your Pokémon to die...Such rules seem like they'd make the game even more punishing if you make a tiny mistake, and even with the basic rules Luck is still a huge factor in whether you'll succeed or fail.

A friend of mine made his own variant of a Nuzlocke before,it was basically a completionist variant. I called it a "Complocke" because of it. Basically instead of catching only the first Pokémon in each area,he had to catch EVERY new Pokémon in each area before continuing.

I love Nuzlockes. I've done several, though I have yet to beat a game on a Nuzlocke.
My first was Emerald, which is still going. I'm up to the Elite Four in a Blue run... And I have to say that the first gen makes Nuzlocking a whole lot harder. I've also been doing one in Gold, in which I OHKO'd most of the E4 pokemon since they're all pushovers.
I love the extra challenge, though I could frankly do without the grinding. xD;

I just caught a Mareep which I'm very happy with. It should make the first gym very easy.
