I found a wild ditto and it transformed into my croconaw. I beat it to within an inch of its life and used a pokeball, it failed. so I thought about it, and used a net ball figuring the ditto atm is water type.
However...
When I caught the ditto, much to my surprise it retained my Croconaw's move set. I have a ditto that uses WATER GUN! it also bites... somehow.
Anyway, is this a common problem among the masses?

Let me get this straight: If you catch a Ditto in HG/SS after it transforms, it will keep the moves? Or is only if you catch it with a certain ball, or on a certain version of the game?
I need to know this stuff.
I have like twenty dittos and i caught it after it transformed and it hasn't happened so yeah i guess it depends on the version or the

Oh good I used my totadile on a wild ditto in route 37 when I used it my ditto had cut surf rage and water gun (my totadile was hatched from my feraligatir) I was so surprised but I wonder.... So far it happened with a totadile and croconaw plus they are in the same evolution line. Does it have to do with them only?

It happens after a ditto uses rage and then the "ditto's rage is building!" message appears. After that, catch it!

I googled this to see if it had happened to anyone else, and apparently it has. I have a glitched ditto myself. It transformed into my dunsparce that knows rage and defense curl. When I caught it, ditto retained those moves in place of transform. However, when I tried to duplicate this, with the same dunsparce as well as other pokemon, it did not happen again. I wonder what conditions cause this glitch to happen...

I left two dittos at a daycare to see what would happen. Two weeks later I took them out, no eggs. Then when I checked the moves, they both had normal type moves and transform was gone. Now I don't know how to get it back

dude....this just barely happened to a ditto i also caught. i caught it using my onix and when i caught the ditto the ditto no longer has transform as a move but instead has my onix's rock throw, headbutt, rage, and screech. so i caught another ditto to see if it would happen again and my 2nd ditto kept his transform move.

Actually I know the reason why this occurred. See, your pokemon had rage did it not? If a pokemon transforms into another pokemon with rage then if they completely use rage until it runs out then attacks then the pokemon keeps the moveset of the pokemon it transformed into. You could actually do this with any pokemon that knows mimic, copycat, assist, or transform. It is a glitch that exists in Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold, and Soulsilver. Quite a large oversight in the programming no? Because of this glitch I currently have a minun (minun and plusle have copycat in their moveset) with Dark Void, Dream Eater, Pain Split, and Thunderbolt. Not a lie, try it yourself.
Use smeargles...that way you could fully customize your pokemon! img link=http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Rage_glitch

if it DOES clone items, there are good possibilities to throw lots of rare items (sacred ash, master ball, very rare berries, etc) into the game
and by extent into the gts...cool stoof for everyone!

Whenever I played it (I have SoulSilver) I was fighting a Level 10 Ditto just above the DayCare Center. I got it down until it had 2-3 HP left or so then spammed it with regular Pokeballs. It kept breaking out so I tried a friend ball, it didn't work either...
It broke out of two great balls too, then I used an Ultra and caught it. The OP used a Net Ball and it did the same thing mine did and I used an Ultra so...I don't think the type of ball matters.
I agree, I have the same ditto with Scratch, Bite, Water Gun and Rage. But I just used a plain old pokeball.
