The type of pokemon is irrelevant to whether they find 10, 20, or 50. Their friendship decides how much they find. Also, what happens if you don't unlock a route at the right number of watts? I should've unlocked Hoenn Field at 5000, i'm not at 6487 and it's still not unlocked. Any guesses?
Do you have the national dex? If not then you can't unlock it.

Watts just seem to be used for paths. Magby seems to find a lot of watts.

What happens to the Watts once I put them on my DS? Do they ever get back on the walker/what purpose do they serve on the DS besides opening up new paths?
According to Serebii you can connect to other pokewalkers to send up to ten items and your current party (for the trainer house in viridian city). You can only connect to the other pokewalker once a day though.
When you connect you each get one item which doesn't count toward the three maximum like when you use the dowsing machine. It also sends the data of you and your party to the other person's walker and when the return from their Stroll they can go to the Trainer house (the basement I think) and battle 'you' though the 'you' they see only lasts for 24 hours after they return from the Stroll.0

If you're going to shake it, you have to do so vertically. It's easier to just attach the belt clip, tie a string to it, and swing it back and forth like a pendulum. That's what I did when I watched a ~25 minute show on television and I got to around 4000 "steps". The lazy ingenuity I've seen with this thing is reminding me of an article a while back in Gamepro about cheating at wiifit, lol.
there pretty sensitive on car ride to school i usually earn 50-100 watt's depending on what pocket i have it in
I find this interesting because I've tried just shaking it and it hasn't worked :\ I shook it for a good ten minutes and for a majority of the time, the step counter wasn't even going up...
Because you abuse it when you shake it since it detects abuse IE shaking it.
