I've been playing quite a few retro games lately, mainly ones that I used to play when I first started gaming, and I'm pretty sure I did hell of a lot better back then. I have never played this game before, but dayam it's hard.
How are you finding this particular game? Do you think in general, the casual gamer has less skill than 'back in the day?

Megaman 4 isn't stupidly hard. It's the original Megaman that's really tough. Anyways, IMO, Megaman has the tightest controls in any action/shoot-em-up game.
This is the kind of game where you learn everything without having to read a manual or go through a tutorial.

I mainly play RPGs and I can't remember the last time I struggled through a game. The SNES (even the NES) RPGS were much harder in general.
I'm not too keen on single player FPS but I can usually beat a game easily on normal mode (which is when I tend to never play them again). Again, compared to retro games, they're easy as hell. At least there's higher difficulty levels with most genres (apart from RPGs unfortunately).
I think another BIG factor is the ability to save your game whenever you want now (in a vast majority of modern games). Games like Megaman require you to finish the level. If you die, it's back to the start.

Halo on legendary was way too easy, not that it wasnt hard at some parts but it was much easier than it should have been. How can you not compare the difficulty of one game to one of another genre? MMO's are pretty dynamic with their difficulty levels but its all about how you play it. You can always level up higher than the monsters you're fighting, not to mention getting help from others to fight said monsters or even power leveling off of another character. You're confusing difficult with time consuming with the pokemon reference.
That's exactly what im talking about though games are being made to be inherently easy.
As for jrpg's i havent played many of the recent generation's except for phantasy star and maybe two or three others. The newer phantasy star cant compare in difficulty with the original four. They *bleep*ed up the shining force series when they turned to action rpg . What good jrpg's are out now?
I do have to agree with hellfire though, I thought i did way better back in the day too. Maybe I just raged more and forgot about it haha.

I would have to disagree with that.
I grew up playing retro games and found them no easier or hard than I find games these days. Playing Halo on Legendary is one of the hardest things I have ever done in gaming.
You gave 3 examples of modern day games. Wow, an mmo which really cannot be compared, Halo, which is actually quite difficult on legendary which you can choose right from the start if you want a challenge and Pokemon which was never supposed to be difficult in the normal sense of the word but can be made difficult if you wish to find all the Pokemon.
The casual gamers have ruined Nintendo but there are still always options for those looking for a challenge. Jrpgs of this era are no easier than those of the snes.

I'm tired of casual gamers. Please go find a game that has an "easy" setting, like Halo. How about some pokemon? Maybe some WoW?
Video games with no challenge suck. Even games nowadays on hard are easier than most retro games. If you're playing a game and dont die/lose 15+ times before the end it's not hard enough or in some cases the game's just too short.
Not trying to be a dick but the casual gamer has pretty much ruined the market for anyone looking for a challenge in gaming.

Not only that but it seems like they push things to the limit too. Like when you're trying to jump across a gap, they basically make it so you have to be in the exact spot in order to make it. Not to mention there's usually an enemy waiting right at the other edge to knock you off, or one comes flying in the air at you mid-jump, or something comes shooting from inside the gap.

I think the controls make it more difficult than it probably should be. It's impossible to do a jump backwards and shoot forwards because whenever you press a direction, he flips to the other side. The game would be so much easier of he didn't do this.

This game is stupidly hard, in my opinion. I dunno if it's because gamers in this era are less skilled, I think that companies have just refined the difficulty moreso to suit the everyday type of person.
