The hump is used to sore water and other nutrients that is why they are so large on Krogan vanguards.

I don't want Grunt. I'm sure if I met Grunt first, I'd love him. But Wrex was the first to steal my heart. Thus I will love no one else. Having Grunt in my party would make me feel dirty and like a cheater.

It could also have something to do with the fact that he is a young Krogan.
Or it could be because he is wearing a Light variant of Krogan armor, while Wrex wore Medium/Heavy.
