From what i've heard it was announced in 2006, and its still not out until Winter 2009.
But Final Fantasy XII's original release date was set for 2004.

...Then it didn't release in Japan and American until 2006, 2007 for Europe.

That's why you didn't hear anything about FFXIII's release until recently - so it didn't happen again.

But I digress.

Most of the stores get them early but they get told not to break the street dates but some do but they will have to be quiet about it.

I got LOZ:TP a week before it was released. Church friends work at gamestop, and they say that the stock the games weeks before. Leaving the wait so more people become excited.
