Welcome to Neoseeker's Sample Graphics, where you are free to post any digital artwork for criticism. Please take the time to read the following rules. Rules revised and shortened.
Rules of Sample Graphics
Sexual Content; Content showing nudity or mature acts of sexual behavior are not permitted.
Theft; Neoseeker will not tolerate anyone stealing other artist's work and claiming it as their own. Violaters of this will be permanently banned on sight.
Giving Criticism; Be CONSTRUCTIVE with your criticism. If you don't like something, say why. Give suggestions on how to fix it, and ways they can improve their work in the future. If you posting some of your work its only polite to critique on people before you. Try and actually help them rather then just explaining what they did so you can get criticism on yours.
Recieving Criticism; Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people are going to like your work, and some aren't. Know this. Please use appropriate behavior if someone gives you bad feedback on your work. Contrary to what you may think, they are only trying to help. Also, please take what they say into consideration when continuing on with your graphics. Theres no point in posting here if you won't even try to adjust to what people say.
Large Images; Images that are over the demensions of 500x500 and/or above the filesize of 150 kB, you MUST supply them with a link. There will be no penalty or ban given if you fail to do so but it just helps if you link such images as they tend to stretch the page making the thread look generally ugly.
Flash Animation; Link all Flash creations.
Fan Art/Hand Drawings; This is Graphics and Animation. Do not post work that you have not digitally edited yourself. This includes fan art and hand drawings. You may only post them if you have done something digital to them.
Thanks Musachi. I know what you mean about the hair, the reason for that is because I started with the hair and the intention that it would be a pretty simple black and white vector job only using a few different grey tones, hence the lack of detail. However, once I got to the face I ended up going a bit mad and made it a lot more detailed than I originally intended. I found the eyes incredibly tricky, and kind of just settled on them as I got fed up of drawing something, deleting it and repeatedly starting from scratch. Document I worked from was a wallpaper image, but it was done in illustrator so I can scale it up and down.
The whole process wasn't very well thought out to be honest, as you can see from the fact that it went through a few different versions and recolourings. Fortunately it wasn't anything important, just a bit of mucking around to try and learn my way around Illustrator a bit better.

Long time since I was back here... :/
Sphinx - Not bad, the clothes & skin are well done but the hair could do with a little more work. Also the eyes kinda creep me out a little.... sorry... Overall though a nice piece. Was the original document you worked from the same size as the final product..?

Thought I'd stick up the full size version of the vector I did for the Sig of the week contest, as well as the banners.
Firstly, here's my original entry for the contest:
When I started it I originally was going to just do it in grayscale, but changed my mind halfway through, I quite liked the contrast between the gray skin and the clothes at first, but looking at it again I just think it looks weird. Also, the format I saved it in led to a lot of detail being lost. So, after a hasty recolouring her it in full colour.
I think it looks a lot better, but that said I'm not totally pleased with the recolouring, would have ideally revectored some parts, but there is so many items on each layer that getting the objects into the right order is a bit of a nightmare. Next time I do a similar project I need to try and order my layers a bit better.
Finally, the updated version of the banner, which I think looks much better now that I've saved in a better format with the full colour version.

Doesn't exactly fit in with "graphics," but what do you guys think about the design of this site? It's something I'm working on for/with a friend and we're looking to get some feedback now...

Wow, people got sick with the graphics. I remember in '06 when it was just a banner frenzy, I used to drop sigs all the time when I was like 14, now I wouldn't know where to start. Some of the work on these last few pages is amazing.
Edit: On a negative side, noticed a few of the dates in this thread and it's a shame about the lack of activity there is now.

I'd suggest just sticking to the pen tool for a while, that is the fundamental feature of Illustrator in m opinion and if you can get that down then you'e going to open up a completely new set of paths (pun unintentional) Try focusing on breaking the image down into parts. I haven't seen the original stock that both you and sphinx have used but it's clear his has work. Vectoring is about attention to detail and making sure that every tiny curve works. You can see that there's been a lot of consideration into colour and detail on sphinx's piece. I'd suggest zooming in a lot (shortcut cmd + to zoom in or cmd - to zoom out), this helps me a lot as you can tackle tiny areas and fill them with a lot of detail.
I'm not really sure what else to suggest, my signature of working doesn't require me to painstakingly try and replicate an image through vector format, I just freehand it all. Hope something in that paragraph helped.
