Ok guys I have a question.

What goes on in your mind?

Been wanting to know for a while now.

Main part is suing over anything.

You shovel food down your throats, inevitably get fat then sue McDonalds for it? Why is that? Is it McDonalds fault your so greedy and lazy so burn it off?

Because of Americans suing, companies are now becoming so paranoid that when I bought a packet of peanuts, on the label there was a warning - "Warning this contains nuts".

Are you guys seriously that warped in the mind?

Some logical answers would be nice into this suing mentality that you guys have .

I follow your logic, Fred, but I think the reason the price of beef is so low has less to do with the amount of pasture we have (it's shrinking, but the cost of the hamburger has remained basically the same adjusting for inflation) and more about the fact that we subsidize corn at a ridiculous amount and feed it to our cattle in little feed stations. Hell, Britain doesn't need that much land to raise corn-fed beef, and the U.S. is always looking at ways to get rid of the stuff (see: every single processed food product in your local grocery store).

Are most cattle raised in Britain corn or grass-fed? That would be a question more intrinsically tied to the discrepancy of cost of a hamburger in both countries, in my opinion.

Quit being silly. I might as well be saying that Jambo wears kilts 24/7 like the guys in Braveheart and eats Haggis everyday.
I do. I also moon the English any chance I get.

You can't take what you see from the media and apply it to all Americans. If you did, swine flu would have been a much more serious issue, no one would be sleeping because they're too busy mourning Michael Jackson still, and everyone pops a boner in the presence of Barack Obama.

Quit being silly. I might as well be saying that Jambo wears kilts 24/7 like the guys in Braveheart and eats Haggis everyday.

There's so many diferent types of people in America, it's a vast melting pot. Do you really think we are "all" sueing eachother? Jambo seems pretty sterotypical to me.

There are some jerks here that sue big companies....so these guys have to put out warnings stating the obvious so that these morons can't act like *bleep* and say they had no idea that their coffe would be hot. So, a handfull of idiots cause this problem, and you have to post this bs "Mind of an American" thread. They're idiots that happen to be American.

I think we pretty much think the same way almost everyone else does in this world. Except how we call different things different words, like "soccer" instead of "football", "field" instead of "pitch", etc.

It's just a stereotype that Americans are lazy and all (but I disagree that it's true).

Edit: What the hell? The quiz I linked to is no longer available (since July 13th) and neither is the rest of the creator's site? His site and his other quizzes were really fun, I found all that stuff like three years ago, and it's no longer available? Well I took the link out, I wonder if it will change anything...

McDonald's selling so well in America is because it's cheap here. They do well in the U.S. because (unlike Europe) America has a huge amount of land to raise beef cattle on. This means that the price of hamburger in America is about one-third of that of the UK. So people eat a lot of McDonald's.

Two issues here:

Lawsuits:
America needs tort law reform. It is too easy to sue and is fairly inexpensive to file. The positive to this is that 90 percent of lawsuits are totally unsuccessful. However, America also has the biggest media network in the world and the stupidest lawsuits are the ones that get press. Do you think McDonald's actually is paying out one cent for making people fat? No, it's just some idiots that decided to file. Filing a lawsuit does not equal monetary gain. Most of the time the stupid ones are dismissed at the first court appearance.

Also it's worth noting that most Americans are not happy that civil law has fallen into the lawsuit heavy mentality that it has, but no one is exactly sure how to fix it. The truth is that America's law system is still better than 80% of the countries in the world, many of which have basically no civil law system for settling property disputes.

Nut allergies:
This is your misunderstanding. Peanuts and other nuts are genetically not related to each other. There are plenty of people allergic to either peanuts or regular nuts, but not the other. However since they taste similar and are frequently sold together they are sometimes packaged on the same equipment. So the warning you think is so stupid is actually there for a very good reason. If someone is allergic to nuts but not peanuts (a very common condition) they should not eat the peanuts you bought because they probably have residue from other nuts on them.

Logical enough?
