Muk is not that word backwards.
It's not even spelled the same way.
Pokemon names came from a verity of things. Whether it be backwards names, combinations of games, or based on mythology.
It's the case both US and JPN names, actually.

quote Matt Player Of AC
But literal pokemon names are spelt backwards. Like Ekans...which is a snake... Arbok... a cobra....... Muk... nto even going there.
Ogge the Eggo Pokemon, Kajpalf the Flapjack pokemon!
Some, but most aren;t. Such as Squirtle, which is Squirt and Turtle combined. The same way is used with Charmander, Charcoal + Salamander. I'm not sure about Bulbasaur. Maybe Bulbas + Dinosaur? Actually, those backwards names make sense, though.
