New:

Weapons can have underbarrel attachments, eg grenade launchers and shotguns.

There's also a few new weapons, both new to Peace walker and new to the series.

- Pink Camo makes an appearance, suggesting there will be many types of camouflage.
- Pretty much every item can be upgraded.
- Enemies that are near death (lying still, red flickering skull above them) can be Fultoned out and recruited.
- EZ Gun heals Co-Ops partners.
- Calorie Mate is now used to recover Stamina/Psyche
- Exploding Box... explodes.
- Certain Codec messages can have effects like increasing running speeds.
- Ambulance Box can instantly revive a downed teammate.
- Strike Mic weapon can call in an airstrike.
- Aerial Mines can be deployed against helicopters.
- New weapon: Rail Gun, can cause major damage by itself but for maximum potential needs to be charged up by the other teammates.

New:

- Tiger Stripe camo. Maybe we'll see more?
- Active enemy finder that also doubles as nightvision/thermal vision
- The Tank Box.... Shoots tank shells
- 'Stealth Gun' that projects a stealth field over a teammate, as long as you shoot them with it
- The 'I see you!' codec command automatically tags all enemies currently visible on the screen
- You can tag teammates as well as enemies; they appear with a yellow tag instead of a red one
- A weapon that looks like a Stinger Missile launcher; it's an electromagnetic beam gun

New:
- Mini CYPHER-type Metal Gears have been dubbed 'Kidnappers'
- There's an advanced enemy sensor that pings enemies while active. There is a number in the centre of the ping, probably a threat llevel indicator
- Player can keep an Enemy ID Tag on an enemy, as long as the tag remains within the screen borders it will still display
- New items called 'Supply Mic' and 'Decoy'
- Decoy deploys a carboard cutout Snake that enemies will investigate
- Supply Mic is a thrown item, when activated it summons a helicopter with a box full of random items for Snake. Can be used to KO soldiers.
- Classic CQC abilities return, such as holding an emey without choking, and interrogation
- Some sort of action while holding an enemy hostage, using the Stun Rod
- New item called Analyser, no need for Headhunters anymore. Can be upgraded, there's some info missing from the display of that particular model, and the level of the device is displayed on the top of the screen
- Three levels of sniper zoom
- Snake now voices Codec transmissions; "I'm taking it slow.", "Here Goes!". Codecs may be customisable
- The ability to pat the items out of a frozen enemy quickly
- Items can be sent to Mother Base automatically
- Stamina goes down in segments, accompanied by a 'reduction' sound
- Chaff grenades are actually useful
- While on top of a ladder, Snake can grab enemies passing by the ladder and throw them down
- New item looks something like a rug, conceals Snake like Stealth Camouflage when used.
- There's an EXTRAS submenu in the main menu

quote IGN.com
US, September 23, 2009 - Hideo Kojima has provided some strong hints that Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker might as well be called Metal Gear Solid 5. But in case you doubted him, you need only see this week's Famitsu, which shared the cast of characters.

Peace Walker looks like it has a huge cast, with familiar and not-so-familiar names. Here's the list of characters that appear in this week's issue:

Snake
Amanda
Huey
Chico
Strangelove
Coldman
Cecile
Miller
Paz
Galvez

Konami has been a bit shy in sharing story details, and that hasn't changed even with this week's Famitsu. The magazine did manage to show a few event screenshots, though, and also pointed out that the game's cut scenes will mix in computer visuals with illustrations from both Yoji Shinkawa and Ashley Wood. It seems that the illustrations aren't just static, though. Hopefully the upcoming Tokyo Game Show trailer will provide a glimpse!

The magazine also shared details on some of the game's cooperative play mechanics. When playing co-op, you'll encounter two particular phrases: Co-op In and Snake-In.

Co-op In is a state that two players enter when their characters reach a certain proximity to one-another. While in this state, your life gauges are shared. You can also trade weapons and equipment.

Snake In is a state you reach when your characters get even closer. You're given the ability to change into Snake Formation, which ties your characters together. One character controls movement for the entire group, allowing the other players to concentrate on other things, like shooting for instance.

It looks like the staff at Kojima Productions are coming up with some unique systems to make Peace Walker's cooperative play special. We'll hopefully get a closer look at these systems in the game's Tokyo Game Show demo tomorrow, so be sure and check back!

New info, taken from the TGS 2009 Trailer and the playable demo:

- The backstory of The Boss will be revealed
- The mysterious armed forces deploying in Costa Rica are being funded by the CIA
- There are at least two or three different types of Metal Gear featured in the game
- Snake will become Big Boss!
- Outer Heaven will be formed

The rest, you should really see for yourself.

From the demo:
- The game doesn't pause. The only way to stop gameplay is to put the PSP in Sleep mode.
- Whichever outfit you pick for Snake affects what he takes into the mission, from weapons and weapon types to special equipment. This couldbe a demo-only feature, we may see full loadout customisation in the full game.
- The controls are defaulted to a third-person shooter style, but can be switched to more traditional MGS controls.
- Damage given to enemies, whether lethal or non-lethal, is displayed when you attack.
- New CQC Throw: Snake can thow a target over his shoulder, into other enemies.
- Grenades now have a parabolic arc indicator, giving the player an idea of where they will travel
- No more First Person View, instead the game controls like Metal Gear Online.
- Weapon and Item inventories are separate, with 8 slots in each.
- Radars aren't standard: The Surround Indicator (radar from Portable Ops) and Soliton Radar (similar to the Radar in MGS1 and MGS2) are equippable items.
- Going prone means the player cannot move or perform any actions.
-Camouflage Index has made a return.
- In single player or Co-Ops, it's possible to use radio preset messages like 'Go, Go, Go!' and 'Take Cover!'

Co-Op Trailer:

New infomation for you:
-You can perform CPR on fallen players
-Tag team (Tandem) mode
-Threat/Awareness ring - has something to do with co-op actions, you can only do certain actions while buddies are inside the awareness ring.
-Players can automatically follow the leader in Tandem mode, and shoot people without having to worry about movement.
-At least 8 Equipment slots, but there could be more.
-Tagging soldiers for easy identification. This tag can be seen through smoke, allowing players to take down enemies easily.
-Can climb on boxes, and can drop your own box and climb it to reach areas not usually possible.
-Snake names are: 'Naked Snake', 'OD (or Olive Drab) Snake', 'Sneaking Snake' and 'Battle Snake'.
-Can heal teammates with Rations or Life Meds or whatever
-Hitting enemies shows how much damage the player does to them, may also be some sort of scoring system.
-Snake can hold up downward-closing blast doors, allowing players behind to get through.
-Can throw enemies into each other for special knockouts.
-MSF Tactical Shield- so far, only Battle and Sneaking Snakes have used them.
-Can use small weapons (Like the Scorpion) while shield is equipped.
-There's more than one way to stop a tank, you can shoot the... engine? Gearbox? On the back of it to get it to stop moving.
-Stun Rod! Probably similar in function to the Stun Knife. Only Roddier.
-New cardboard box shaped like a tank
-Mini Floatal Gear CYPERs. These things have extendable arms like the Metla Gear Mk.II's.
-Players can exchange weapons/equipment freely.

The menu system lets players look into the equipment menu of anyone who is near them, and allows easy exchanges of items.

-Peace Walker may be headset compatible.

-Heavy gun emplacements (Machine guns) make a return.

-EDIT!: I completely missed it, I have been playing way too much MGS4 and I am used to it, but the player can now walk while carrying and RPG-7. And probably the sniper rifles, even though they have not yet made an appearance.

I can now say the same about you. You're right though. Even this post isn't about information. Gah.

Okay. Well, some of the obvious.
  • There are four different versions of Big Boss
  • There are currently 4 known weapons. A tranquilliser, a M16A1, an AK47 and a RPG7.
  • As far from what we can see, there are levels which contain:
  • Beach
  • Jungle
  • Swamps
  • Industrial Area
  • Bridge (Possibly with the Jungle)
  • There might be an implementation of a weather system similar to MGS3.
