I created a new thread:

Where can I check whether the socket is using foxconn?

I am using the VTurbo, but when the OC is over 3.5GHz, it started lost its stability and rebooting the system.
The Foxconn logo is on and under the socket, can't miss it

TurboV works for light overclocks, but if you want more out of it, you'll have to leave the presets alone. You can check out my review of the Maximus III Formula, I listed the settings I used for the overclock.

They most likely won't work straight up for your particular processor, but it should give you an idea.

But yeah, start another thread if you need more help!

ahh, a socket 1156 processor huh? do you know if it uses a foxconn socket for the CPU? if not, then go ahead and overclock further, this time with the BIOS. it is better to do it through here.

Anyways, if you take time to learn and overclock by yourself, you should be able to hit 3.8 GHz without much trouble. I constantly hit above 4 GHz on mine.

That's fine, you made me curious too

well im curious to see what the newer processors show, but you dont have to if you dont want to.

You're entirely right in saying it doesn't have large effect! I'll run some numbers at a set voltage and post results, sounds good?

on computers ive overclocked, changing the stock frequency to the highest possible on stock voltages resulted in a negligible temperature change, which is why youre practically staying at the same temperature. at least in my experience. ive yet to overclock an AM3, 1366 or 1156 processor.

if you dont increase the voltage, you dont increase the heat
Not entirely true, voltage does make a major difference, but frequency also plays a role.

Voltage has been increased a bit but is done on using Asus Vturbo, not manually in bios. My cpu is the midrange i7 860 2.8GHz while mobo is Asus p7p55 EVO.

was that with a voltage increase though? because if you dont increase the voltage, you dont increase the heat. on those temperatures, you should be able to hit at least 3.1 ghz, maybe 3.0. it all depends on the cpu you have. were going off topic here, but if you ever need help with overclocking, you can make a thread about it and we would be more than happy to help you.
