Hello all! For now I'm just going to post reviews I like of mine, but eventually I'll post more. Expect a lot of PS3, PS2 and PC game reviews, with the odd movie, SNES, Genesis, N64, Gamecube, PS1 and 360 review.

Rating System:
0 - *bleep* you
Games that are really really *bleep*ing bad get this score. Thankfully, it's only reserved for the likes of Ninjabread Man and Superman 64.

1 - Dog shit
These games *bleep*ing suck.

2 - Shit
These games are pretty bad, but you know for a fact that there's worse out there.

3 - Bad
Eh, they mean well at least. That... counts for something, right?

4 - Below average
They do more wrong than right, but aren't that offensive.

5 - Average
Like a void of nothing. Just... complete nothingness.

6 - Above average
They do more right then wrong, but aren't really good.

7 - Good
They tend to be good, but they have some screws loose that stop them from being OH MY GOD MUST BUY!!!

8 - Great
Besides some small issues, these tend to kick ass and chew bubblegum.

9 - *bleep*ing excellent
Why the *bleep* haven't you got this already? What are you waiting for, Nintendo to release it?

10 - Better than sex!!!
Just as rare as the *bleep* You rating, this is reserved for the very absolute *bleep*ing best of the best.

There you have it.

Whoops, can't believe I originally missed that bit, cheers Insanity Prevails

I could probably talk about the platforming a bit during where I talk about the level designs. Just need to think of a way to word it so that it flows with the rest of the paragraph. as you could probably tell by this late response alone, I'm drawing blanks. maybe now that I've mentioned it, the ideas will be flowing... or not

You'll be revisiting some areas at times, but you'll find that things have changed; enemies have gotten stronger and the terrain is a bit different. You may even fight a boss that wasn't there!
I would put a "previously" or "before" at the end of this sentence. Otherwise I read it like we're fighting a boss that is somewhere else.

Fantastic review Lukas. Definitely pleased to see another fan of the game giving us a review of it. You highlighted virtually everything I would think of. I would maybe mention something about the platforming itself (even if it's not as primary a focus as, say, Super Mario Bros), unless I missed it. You have mentioned the things like the Metroid similarities, story, retro aspects, the interesting combat setup etc so that's all cool.

5.5? Man, that's a harsh score for Final Fantasy X. I figured you'd be the kind of guy who would be addicted to it forever until you get sick of it. Or maybe that's why.
haha

Can definitely agree on a lot of the individual points raised though. Grinding for the extras was not cool and the supposed flexibility of the expert sphere grid seemed a bit pointless.
Especially not cool when you consider the difficulty of the story bosses and how they were designed to compliment the linear map. I didn't mind the idea of the flexibility but yeah, everybody was too clearly defined for that shit.

lol stop swearing so much.
no.

quote Monterey Jack
ehhhhh I think it's more of a 6 than a 5.5/10 tho but that's just me.
yeah it is just you, write your own review

quote Monterey Jack
but I like your Final Fantasy X review quite a bit. it's rare to see someone praise the battle system for this game and especially the bosses. I, myself, only really liked the four bosses you brought up and found the rest of them generic, but what you said at least brings an interesting perspective to the floor on linear level designs and the boss battle designs
Cheers man, that's the main point I wanted to make (besides the sheer ineptitude of the storytelling). I just find it silly when people diss on linear designs without knowing that linear level designs have their purpose and that open worlds are crap if there's like nothing to do in them besides getting to Point B... except grind. I will eventually give Final Fantasies 7-9 their days eventually, but I got other games to get through.

quote Monterey Jack
also dug your Assassin's Creed 3 review but part of me thought you spent more time trying to be funny than actually reviewing it. mind you I thought it was funny but.. yeah, just something to consider even if you already did with your Final Fantasy X review. or something you already did with your Jak & Daxter review.
Admittedly, I was focusing more on humor than reviewing, mainly because it was the best way for me to convey my thoughts on Assassin's Creed 3 (and Jak And Daxter to an extent). It was such a bad game that I needed something to balance out the out and out bitching I did and humor was the first thing to come to mind.

but yeah thanks for the comments guys, really appreciate it. link here if everybody else wants easier access to it.

can't wait for your next reviews but yeah, cut down on the swearing. like Celes said, it dilutes its potency - in other words, it gives the words less impact, which goes against their intention in an opinion piece.

I find it funny that I promised a Cave Story+ review two months ago and it's only now that I've just started writing it up.

Anyway, I've somewhat experimented with a more humorist style of writing with my latest two reviews - Jak & Daxter has me taking the beginning of Naughty Dog's then-new series's beginning and giving it its dues. Might've been one of the first PS2 games worth a damn and it's a good game, but it has some sore spots here and there. Assassin's Creed 3 was just a piece of shit that had no idea on what it wanted to be, all the while putting me to sleep with its boooooooring story and tedious chores. oh and you sometimes get to be a naval commander and an assassin. This style feels more natural to me but I'm not sure if I've translated it to the written word to you guys as well as it could've been.

I got a challenge for you

you're only allowed to use the F word three times in your next review

good luck mate
I don't know if I can do this but I'll try.

uh oh, it was actually ignorance. I fixed it up though.
maaaaaaaaate do your research

I actually thought it was a big thing throughout the game, not just the end.
lol not really. well, it's there in a way, but like you said in your edit, it focuses more on his inner self than that overarching plot.

quote Lukas
haha I did swear a bit too much here. I edited out a few F words. I feel that what I left is necessary.

Then from what I could tell, United Front, the developers of that shitty racing game Modnation Racers, and Square Enix stepped in to tamper with this third True Crime game just enough to make it its own game so that they don't get in trouble.
except Sleeping Dogs was being developed by United Front from the very beginning (back even before it was meant to be True Crime: Hong Kong), I assume it was before they developed Modnation Racers. Square Enix had purchased the right to publish it but not the rights to the license, so they had one of their studios pitch in with United Front to finally finish it off. I hope that you probably wrote that up as rule of entertainment rather than just plain ignorance.
uh oh, it was actually ignorance. I fixed it up though.

quote Celes Leonhart
2) I think it's a bit lame you spoiled the end of the game in the second paragraph - if I hadn't played the game already I would be MAD pissed.
I actually thought it was a big thing throughout the game, not just the end. But I changed it, hopefully it doesn't feel like I spoiled the ending.

quote Celes Leonhart
Also a big thing for me but you drop the F bomb like every second sentence. Nothing against using *bleep* - it works fantastically well in emphasising a point - but when it's there a dozen times a paragraph it really dilutes its potency.
haha I did swear a bit too much here. I edited out a few F words. I feel that what I left is necessary.

Thanks for the comments guys.
